The new studio is coming together one delivery at a time.

Today’s unboxing: our brand-new wireless mic!

It might seem like a small thing, but every box we open makes our new home feel a little more real — and we’re getting VERY ready to fill this place with classes, Friday parties, music, and a whole lot of dancing.

And yes… Kris now has a microphone. We’re not sure that was a responsible decision. 😂

Meet Kris Hazard, choreographer for Team Broome.

Kris attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts' high school program and graduated with a Special Concentration in Ballet. His summers were spent at the dance intensives at American Ballet Theatre, Houston Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet. He was also selected for the Broadway Theatre Project, where he was given the opportunity to work with the legendary tap dancer Gregory Hines.

After high school, Kris returned to his first love of musical theatre and graduated with a BFA in Music Theatre from Elon University, considered one of the top musical theatre programs in the country. Aside from classical, theatrical, and tap styles, he has trained extensively in ballroom and Latin dance, working with Tony Dovolani and brothers Max and Val Chmerkovskiy from the hit ABC television show Dancing With The Stars.

Kris is a proud member of both Actor's Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild. His professional credits include the Broadway National Tour of The Wizard of Oz, Children of Eden at New Jersey's Papermill Playhouse, Fred Astaire in Blowing Rock Stage Company's Backwards in High Heels: The Musical Story of Ginger Rogers, The Smoky Mountain Opry, Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, and both Dollywood and Opryland theme parks.

Today he is the owner of Marble City Ballroom in Knoxville, offering private lessons, group classes, and social dance parties in ballroom, Latin, swing, and country dance styles.

Some came knowing how to Waltz. Some learned that night. And then everyone got out on the floor together.

This is exactly what we love about our Friday parties — learning something new, actually getting to use it, and spending the night dancing with some pretty great people.

And seeing this many people out on the floor at once? 🥹

We’ve been keeping a pretty BIG secret… 👀

Marble City Ballroom is getting a NEW HOME!

We’ve been a little quiet lately… and now we can finally tell you why.

But before we look ahead, we want to say a very heartfelt thank you to the owners of Champion Ballroom both past and present. Mark & Rhonda Becker and Waldo y Jacqui Solano.

Champion has been our home, and we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity they gave us to teach, dance, grow, and build the Marble City community within their studio. We’ll always appreciate the part they played in our story.

Now it’s time for the next chapter.

Meet my amateur couple dancing to raise money for Sevier County United Way. Please go vote for them in support of United Way!

One of them spent more than two decades as a cardiac nurse. The other teaches people to fly above Douglas Lake. 💃🕺

Meet Team Broome.

Betsy Broome grew up in Oakwood, Georgia, raised by her mom and older sister in the North Georgia foothills, where her childhood nickname was Jubilee. She found dance on her color guard team and carried it through the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega and her Phi Mu sisterhood. After more than 20 years as a cardiac nurse in middle Tennessee, she traded her scrubs for hospitality and is now in her fourth season as a VIP Tour Guide at Dollywood.

Trey Broome chose these mountains as a Western Carolina University student in the mid-90s and never wavered. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Georgia and today serves as Vice President of Clinical Operations at WellMed. Evenings and weekends he is on the water at Surf the Smokies, the family's Fliteboard-partnered Fliteschool on Hunkerdown Hollow Farm, where guests eFoil above Douglas Lake with the Smokies rising all around them.

Betsy and Trey met in the mountains of North Carolina and celebrate 25 years of marriage this December. They are raising two boys, Parker, 21, and Sawyer, 16, on a farm with Delta the dog, six spirited goats, and more chickens than Betsy will admit to counting. Cheering them on is team marketer Chuck Winstead of Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, a United Way supporter since 1986.
