HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR. JOHN CARLOS! 🏅✊🏾

On this day, we celebrate the life and legacy of Olympic champion, activist, and trailblazer John Carlos.

At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Carlos won the bronze medal in the 200-meter race. But history remembers him for something even greater. Alongside fellow medalist Tommie Smith, he raised a black-gloved fist during the medal ceremony in a powerful stand for human rights, equality, and justice.

The image became one of the most iconic moments in sports history. While the gesture cost both men dearly in the short term, their courage inspired generations of athletes and activists around the world to use their platforms for change.

Today, Dr. John Carlos is recognized not only as an Olympic medalist but as a symbol of conviction, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to human dignity.

The raised-fist salute was part of the Olympic Project for Human Rights, a movement that sought to challenge racial inequality and discrimination both in sports and society.
