It has been an Honor to make World (out of the Kukkiwon, S Korea) Taekwondo AKA “Olympic-Style” training available to the youth and families of the Bob Temple Y over the past 8 years. (Yes, it’s been that long!)
I can still recall the Club’s beginnings: “What are you doing?” Mz. Jennifer Massengill inquired, as I put a Hogu (rib guard) on one of our boys. Concerned I was about to get in trouble due to the potential level of contact involved in the sport, I stammered. “Uh… Nothing… The boys are about to play, it’s uh…a game - Taekwondo.” “Would you do that?” She replied, with immediacy. “Huh? It’s safe, these…” “Would you run a class for other children?”
The Club grew to a high point of more than a dozen students and we were Blessed to help train a few more Taekwondoists to WT Black Belt rank for both the world - and for their Lives. Thank you for your trust, for your patience, for forgiving our (many!) shortcomings, and most of all, for allowing us the opportunity to share the Sport and Art of Taekwondo with You. Even if you do not continue Taekwondo practice, I hope the exposure to the Way (or “-Do”) within these walls - however brief - might lead to a lifetime of continued personal betterment through an Indomitable spirit forged via the Self-Discipline, Perseverance and Internal Work (“Muknyon”) required and fostered by this Sport and Art. Until the circle of existence (represented by your belt) has us meet again - Tae Kwon!
