Trout tips ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค™
Always clip your tag ends over your pack. It is amazing how much scrap tippet and leader you can collect rather than leaving on the bank or floating downstream. All those little things turning into something bigโ€ฆ

When attacked, fight back. If your only weapon is your fly rod, know that we will fix it, but we do want to hear the story.

Fish tip:
Do what you can with what you have.
๐ŸŽฃ
After watching the pink salmon spawning in that little creek, I found some pink rabbit strips in a local store, but no hooks. A quick session at camp to wrap those rabbit strips on Hanak 230BL hooks and a trip downstream to find the legal fishing zone. A spey rod would have been great, but the AQUOS 10ft 7wt was all that was available. Simple flies and a single hand rod managed numerous fresher pinks and something else (lingcod?).
๐ŸŸ
The tactic: cast down and across as far as you can. Let it swing with little twitches and hold on tight!

Aquos 10' 5wt ops. Low clear water and picky fish made it tough. A double nymph rig, 7 ft. below an indicator, finally got them chomping.

Preferred rod and fish: Trout, with my 2 or 3 weight Reaver from one end of the country to the other! I absolutely love the Reaver. There is no other rod, in my opinion, comparable to it. From the PEI handle to the eye a lot closer to the reel for faster line control, to the sensitivity! Oh, and by the way, it has some serious backbone to land some really big fish too!

Favorite part of fly fishing: It brings me peace and comfort out in nature. It makes me feel most accomplished, especially tying my own flies and catching fish. I love to tie almost as I like to fish. I love to be able to help others get into the sport and see them excel.

Tip or Trick to share: Never be in a hurry. Fish slow, not being in a rush to get upstream to the next spot. I have found sometimes by slowing down and making a few more casts at a spot is when you get the big one to eat!

About yourself: Flyfishing is a never-ending journey. Always be willing to learn and make yourself better. It is a never-ending learning process. I am always looking to learn more and be willing to help others.

Preferred rod and fish: When it comes to trout, I have to reach for my Syndicate Pipeline P2 10ft 2wt. That rod is my favorite trout euro-nymphing machine.

Favorite part of fly fishing: The immersion into nature, either in solitude or with friends. Fly fishing takes me to beautiful places in various states and countries, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and sceneries. I enjoy the deep connection with nature and with friends. Life becomes more serene and simple, standing in the cool flowing streams listening to the sounds and sights of the river while trying to solve the puzzle of how to entice some fish to eat your fake bugs.

Tip or Trick to share: Very often, people like to rush to the stream and hit that easy spot for fish, while ignoring and trampling over spots in front of them that hold fish. Before rushing to that โ€œhoneyholeโ€, donโ€™t forget to work spots closer to you first and then progress forward. As you return to the river banks, take a few steps to the side and repeat that same pattern. You will be amazed at how many more fish you will catch.

About yourself: Iโ€™m a late bloomer to fly fishing but have fished since I was a teenager. After moving to Texas over eight years ago, I fell in love with the Hill Country, its various rivers and beauty, and quickly adopted fly fishing as one of my passionate hobbies. I enjoy fishing for all species of fish - trout, bass, carp, and saltwater species. My passion is euro-nymphing for trout and sight casting for fish from my kayak.

My other passion includes photography, which I enjoy incorporating the love of fly fishing into it with various beautiful sceneries and subject matter. After all, trout do live in beautiful places!
