Making our way back to the mesa top cabin at 7k ft during the sheep hunt was quite the sight to see. 14 miles in one day in sheep country with bad weather the whole way it seemed. We did manage to eat like a couple of fatso’s that night to say the least! 😂

In search of the biggest of bears!

Cruising the shoreline on Kodiak Island in search of a mature boar brown bear is quite the thrill! Taking on the nasty weather for upwards of 16 hrs on a pitching vessel can be a true test in many physical and mental ways. It can go from zero to hundred in a blink of an eye!

With only 4 days to hunt and find a grizzly for this hunter the pressure was on. Luckily I was able to find a nice boar working up the river. Once we got into position at what turned out to be less than 60yards I instructed him to take the shot. He scoped himself so hard on the first shot his face exploded with blood and he couldn’t see and in the chaos he recycled the spend cartridge. I was in position as the bear moved towards us and was able to to dispatch the silvertip with two more shots from my Browning A-Bolt in .338! Was an intense encounter no doubt!

On our last load this hunter and I spotted a huge grizzly coming down the mountain to the gut pile and decided to saw a branch down and wrap the hide over the skull and make tracks out quickly so we didn’t risk an encounter unnecessarily. Branch held up and made it a little less than a mile down river to the LZ for pickup in good fashion!

After putting a hunter on a massive moose on day one, my packer and I spent most of the next three days packing meat down to the landing strip on the river bar. After a day of much needed rest I was able to get out for a little hunting of my own. With a black bear tag usually in my pocket and the client flown out I managed to take this bear right above camp. Enjoying the down time in-between clients sure is a fun time!

Punching a tag on a great Alaskan moose! On this particular hunt I was the one that was doing the tag filling! Inbetween clients I had 10 days to find my own! And what a bruiser he was!

My idea of heaven right here! The places and experiences working as an Alaskan big game guide are unmatched! After a successful brown bear season this was one of the last clips I took before heading home. 😂 the only sunny and calm day on the 10 day hunt I might add

Victory lap! Two great bears taken on Kodiak island with some stoked hunters! Putting the peddle to the metal on our way back to the cabin all tagged out !

Dippin’ in between the crevasses on the Nabesna Glacier with master guide and pilot Cole Ellis was quite the thrill! Some of my best memories in guiding still to this day was the time spent with this absolute legend of a guy.
