Sometimes a team can train, train, and train some more until they’re exhausted. Then they step onto that field, and you expect all that hard work to show. That’s the goal, right?
But then you have weekends like this past one, where you find yourself wondering, “What was all that training for?”
And that’s when we, as coaches and parents, have to remind ourselves of one very important thing: THESE GIRLS ARE TEN YEARS OLD.
It’s not always going to be sunshine and rainbows. They’re going to make mistakes. They’re going to have bad games. They’re not always going to perform at their best, no matter how hard they’ve worked.
But what matters most is HOW WE RESPOND.
How we bounce back. How we show up the next day. How we hold each other accountable, keep working, and refuse to let one bad weekend define us.
THAT is the culture we are building.
We’re going to take these losses on the chin, learn from them, and use them as fuel. Because every time we step onto that field, we know our opponents are coming to give us their BEST shot. We’re not expecting their third pitcher, or even their second. We know they’re bringing their best, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
We’re okay with being the competition. We’re okay with being challenged. We’re okay with the growing pains that come with chasing something bigger.
Because we didn’t come here for easy! We came here to COMPETE, DEVELOP, and BUILD something that lasts. One weekend doesn’t define us. How we respond to it does.
