What a fun way to spend the end of summer but at a fun show in Rushford! These Rocking N Kids totally ROCKED it today! I am so proud, they all have come so far this summer, pushing the boundaries of fear, trying new things and working hard to master the difficult and challenging things that this sport throws at them. Whether it was trying ba****ck for the first time, trying a new horse, or just steady perseverance they are all winners in my book!

Only 1 more day of fair week left, and these Rocking N Kids have had a great week. From 3 Drill team performances, 3 horse shows, many hours of prep, and stall mucking, food stand hours worked and fair food, to say its been busy is an understatement. They tried their best and did the hard things when they didn't think they could. I am so proud of their determination, dedication, and overcoming the exhaustion that is fair week (iykyk).

💛I’m Going to Let Your Child Struggle 💛

When your child comes for lessons with me, I’m going to let them struggle sometimes.

They may have never fastened a buckle on a piece of tack. A saddle might be heavy and awkward. Their lead rope may be a tangled mess. And something that would take me ten seconds might take them five minutes.

I’m not going to immediately step in and do it for them. *Unless its a safety issue.*

Because someday, I want your child to walk into the barn, catch their own horse, tack up, and head out feeling completely confident in their own abilities.

Why?

Because they’re learning that they can do hard things.

So yes, I’ll help when something is beyond a child's physical ability. I’ll encourage, demonstrate, and keep them safe.

But when they *can* do it? I’m going to give them the time to fumble with the buckle. Untangle the rope. Try again. And figure it out.

Parents, I know watching that can be hard. You’ll want to jump in and make it easier.

But sometimes the greatest gift we can give a child is not making the hard thing easier.

It’s standing beside them long enough for them to discover:

“I can do this myself.”

If you want to do the open horse show on Saturday of Fair, better get registered!

Do you think your summer project, show animal, photograph, garden harvest, etc. is worthy of a 1st Place ribbon?
We want to see it!

There are just 3 days left to register your entries in the Houston County Fair Open Class Departments.

You can register online or in person during our next open office hour, THIS Wednesday August 12th from 5pm - 7pm.

Not sure what you can enter? Be sure to check out our Premium List for the full list of departments and classes. We will link it in the comments!

PS. Did you know that 4-H kids can enter and participate in Open Class Departments as well (yes, even show animals in Open Class).

Your masterpiece deserves a ribbon. Come show it off!
