(Available on Amazon - offer ends midnight Christmas Eve).
Hi there,
At the beginning of this year I wrote a children's story book, based on my own experience with selective mutism.
The ebook is available for free on Amazon until midnight tonight., so if you wish to read it, now is the perfect opportunity!
I hope you find it helpful! đâ¤
Rico the Race Car was written for Highly Sensitive Children but it's also for adults! There are resources for parents in the back- plus we use Ricoâs mom to model language and behavior (and offer a step by break down so parents walk away with new tools and learning.)
⨠TURN OFF THE NEWS (especially if kids can hear it) and with intention, do something to soothe your own anxietyâŚ. How much news do you really need to hear? Check in a few times a day but otherwise substitute television background noise with different genres of music.
⨠NOTICE YOUR THOUGHTS and practice shifting them until you start to feel better. If youâre feeling uneasy your children will feel it too. Children donât alway articulate how they feel; it often comes out in their behavior. Whining, fighting and orneriness are clues that your child has some inner turmoil going on. Spend less time on news and instead use that time to connect with your children!
⨠CONNECT, CONNECT, CONNECT: Donât just play with them. Be intentional in the way you play. Cuddle, giggle, notice what they love to do and how well they are doing it. Give yourself permission to actually have fun with these kids whom you love! And when youâve had enough,
you can declare, "And now, I need some alone time.â
â¨CREATE DAILY ROUTINES, especially if youâre working from home. Invite them to join you in household tasks and set them up with easy independent activities when you have to focus on work. If young children need to feel your presence while you work, set up an âoffice spaceâ for them close to you. Use a red paper circle that anyone in the family can use as a visual when they need time alone. You donât have to entertain them all day long but they may need your help figuring out how to best utilize all of their free time.
⨠RELAX THE STRESS AROUND ACADEMICS and turn to natural learning. With school age children you can double a recipe and challenge each other to figure out the new measurements. Give the 'extra batchâ as a gift to a neighbor from a social distance (ring the doorbell, step back 6 feet and wave good wishes). In this way youâre also teaching compassion with a real life example.
Remember the goal here is not to be PERFECT.
It's to create an energetic environment where your child feels safe.
When your child looks back on this time as an adult let them remember how special it was when the whole world stopped.... how much fun they had... how they got to snuggle with you for days on end... the games you made up... the laughter you shared... the security of the home you've worked so hard to create...
You teach through your own energy.
Take a deep breath and remember that we will get through this đ
We're here for you! If you need some personal support email [email protected] for a free private coaching session.

Imagine being able to identify and (calmly..!) express big, uncomfortable emotions as you're feeling them.
It's not impossible, but it is a learned skill...
We are not born with the ability to immediately recognize, name and express emotions (especially the unwanted ones) in the moment of disregulation.
In the same way that we slowly learn to read-- first the alphabet, and identifying letters, then stringing them together, eventually reading whole sentences and paragraphs-- we also develop emotional literacy over time.
Join me in www.sensitiveparenting.com as I teach you how to hone this skill, for yourself and for your children đ

Empaths, Sensitives & Intuitives Summit The Ultimate Toolkit to Embrace Your Sensitivity, Manage Your Energy, and Hone Your Empathic Superpowers

This free webinar is for those of you who have children heading back to school and would like some loving support đ
School is starting soon and this year, more than ever, the anticipatory stress for children and adults seems to be daunting.
Our clients are sharing with us that their concerns are not only about academics, but fears for their childrenâs emotional health and social well being.
Some children are not aware that they are anxious and it takes some âdetective workâ to realize that a child is asking for help. Tummy aches, headaches, general defiance, flashes of anger, new food or sleep issues, asking lots of questions about COVID, masks, etc. are just some of the clues that a student of any age is struggling to cope with the changes that this year, in particular, may bring.
Highly Sensitive People, young and old, are especially impacted by the chaotic energy, the conflicting messaging and the overwhelming negativity that has become part of our culture. How do parents calm their own concerns so they can be a source of calm for their Highly Sensitive Children?
We have developed an approach that has been incredibly helpful for our clients. Weâve decided to share some of these ideas with you, FREE OF CHARGE because it is our desire to contribute to the well being of our community of parents and educators. We invite you to join us for a free webinar entitled "AN EASY-ISH TRANSITION BACK TO SCHOOLâ.
We will help you tame your own inner thoughts and worries that seem to be swirling for everyone this summer and weâll offer some strategies for soothing your childâs anxieties. While none of us can control the circumstances around COVID, politics or the complexities of the last school year we can enter this next semester feeling more empowered and capable of handling any challenge.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by everything going on in the world?
Maybe you're 'picking up' other people's energy and confusing it with your own?
Last week I lead a grounding + shielding meditation in Julie Bjelland, LMFT's sensitive community and I'm delighted to share it here. My hope is that it brings you some nurturing and inner peace đ
Julie and I chat a bit about meditation, the benefits for Highly Sensitive People and why it's worth cultivating a regular practice.
The meditation starts about 13 minutes in.
I also share how to use this grounding meditation with Highly Sensitive Children as young as 2 years old! They also need to feel rooted to the earth in order to behave well and manage their emotions.

This is from 5 years ago but it feels poignant to share today đ
In the same way that fears and anxiety can limit the well-being of children, adults can find themselves worrying to a degree that interferes with healthy emotional role modeling.
>> Stop talking about scary incidents with others. It keeps you feeling like a victim.
>> Use your brain power. Remind yourself that these types of incidences are rare.
>> Find time each day to get quiet and listen to your Inner Guidance. The connection you make with your own wisdom will serve you well because it will always guide you away from a dangerous situation.
>> Remind yourself how energy works. Your thoughts are powerful. Make a conscious decision to turn your attention away from fearful thoughts and worries and remind yourself of the abundance of kind, caring, loving people who live on this planet.
>> Get busy with activities that you enjoy and that help you feel vibrant.
>> Talk with your children about these strategies. Validate their fears and concerns. Be playful with your children as you model and verbalize what you are consciously doing.
You cannot control other people but you can shift the way you think, feel and behave.
This is where your true power is.

A few tips to THRIVE in quarantine with Highly Sensitive Children
⨠TURN OFF THE NEWS (especially if kids can hear it) and with intention, do something to soothe your own anxietyâŚ. How much news do you really need to hear? Check in a few times a day but otherwise substitute television background noise with different genres of music.

â¨CREATE DAILY ROUTINES, especially if youâre working from home. Invite them to join you in household tasks and set them up with easy independent activities when you have to focus on work.
