🕑 Routine & Motivation

Work with the daylight, not against it – since the days get shorter in the fall, try moving your workouts earlier. A brisk walk or lunchtime workout can give you a boost of sunlight and energy that helps fight off that sluggish, cozy-season feeling.

Dress smart, not heavy – layers are your friend. Start with something light and add a jacket or hoodie you can peel off once you warm up. That way, the cold won’t stop you from heading out the door.

Make it seasonal – motivation often comes from enjoying the process. Go for a run through the changing leaves, hike a local trail, or sign up for a fall fitness challenge. Tying your workouts to the season keeps things fresh.

Set realistic fall goals – instead of chasing perfection, focus on consistency. Maybe it’s hitting 10,000 steps most days, strength training twice a week, or training for a Turkey Trot. Achievable goals build momentum.

Lean on accountability – invite a friend for weekend hikes, join a local fitness class, or track your progress in an app. Having a plan (and sometimes a buddy) makes it easier to keep showing up.

Good posture isn’t about sitting or standing perfectly straight all day. It’s about having the strength, mobility, and body awareness to maintain comfortable positions and move efficiently throughout your day.

Spending long periods sitting, looking down at a phone, or doing repetitive activities can contribute to rounded shoulders, forward head positioning, and stiffness through the chest and upper back. The good news? Posture can be trained!

Try incorporating these exercises into your routine:

💪 Strengthen your upper back

Seated rows — strengthen the muscles that help support your shoulders.
Face pulls — target the upper back and rear shoulders.
Band pull-aparts — help strengthen the muscles between the shoulder blades.

🧘 Improve mobility

Wall angels — encourage shoulder and upper-back mobility.
Doorway chest stretch — gently stretches tight chest muscles.
Thoracic extensions — improve mobility through the upper back.

🧠 Strengthen your core & neck

Chin tucks — strengthen the muscles that help support proper head positioning.
Dead bugs — build core control while maintaining a stable trunk.
Bird dogs — improve core stability and coordination.

You don’t need to hold yourself rigidly upright all day. The best posture is one you can comfortably move out of! Change positions frequently, take movement breaks, strengthen your body, and work on mobility.

Small improvements in strength and movement can make a big difference in how you feel every day!
