What does loving our neighbor Biblically really look like? Let’s have a look, shall we?

FUN FACT:
The first four of the Ten Commandments primarily deal with our relationship with God.

The remaining six deal with how we treat our neighbor.

So when I hear Christians being called “unchristian” or accused of “preaching hate” simply because they speak about what the Bible says is right and wrong, I think we need to stop and ask:

What does it actually mean to love our neighbor?
Because according to Scripture, loving our neighbor doesn’t mean agreeing with everything they do.

In fact, we’re told to be “speaking the truth in love.” — Ephesians 4:15

As Christians, we are called to stand firm on God’s truth and love our neighbors.

Sometimes loving someone means loving them enough to tell them the truth, even when that truth is uncomfortable.

I wish Christians would actually just learn to “love thy neighbor.”

So let’s take a deeper look at how God loves us and how that should shape the way we love our neighbors.

“The Lord disciplines the one he loves.” — Proverbs 3:11–12

“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.” — Revelation 3:19

God corrects us because He loves us.
Biblical love isn’t always comfortable.

Sometimes love says, “You’re wrong.”
Sometimes love says, “You need to repent.”
Sometimes love says, “This path is leading you away from God.”

So if you’re a believer and someone corrects you according to God’s Word and in love, don’t automatically assume they’re judging you simply because their words make you uncomfortable.

Now, I’m not going to pretend that some Christians can come across as judgmental. We absolutely need to examine ourselves.

But correction should always be rooted in truth, humility, gentleness, and a desire to restore. — Galatians 6:1

Because sometimes the most loving thing someone can do isn’t tell you what you want to hear.

It’s tell you what you need to hear.

SAVED BY THE BLOOD.
That’s what Coach Hayden’s shirt says, but what does it mean?

It takes me to Exodus 12 and the Passover, where God provided a way for His people to be spared through the blood of a lamb.

“When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”
— Exodus 12:13

They weren’t spared because they were perfect. They trusted God’s provision and obeyed His command. And that lamb was pointing to something greater—the Lamb of God.

“Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”
— 1 Corinthians 5:7

Just as the Israelites trusted God’s provision and were spared through the blood of the Passover lamb, we are called to put our faith in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, whose blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.

We aren’t saved because we’re good enough.
We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

When the time comes, will the blood of the Lamb be on your doorpost? ✝️

There are some young fathers in my class, so I took the opportunity to talk to them about the Lindsey Clancy case.

I told them I haven’t followed the case closely enough to speak on the details, but I do know postpartum depression is real. Hormones raging, sleepless nights, breastfeeding/pumping, and newborn exhaustion… these moms can be carrying A LOT.

So I reminded the young fathers that as men, we are called to lead our households. And even more so, biblical leadership means serving and sacrificing.
So I told them, if your job permits, take the late-night feeding… get up, put the baby back to sleep, and let your wife rest. Pick up the slack when you can and do what we were called to do… lead by serving.

I used to have the “not my shift, not my problem” mentality. 😂 I’d sleep through the baby crying while my wife was exhausted… then when she would say she was tired in the morning, I’d be thinking, I had the same amount of sleep!

So being the great husband that I am, I thought I’d be nice and make it a point to get up… thinking she was being just a tad dramatic. 😅😅😅

I quickly realized my poor wife was NOT exaggerating. 😂😂

And this isn’t just for husbands—it goes for wives too. We are in a spiritual battle, so be careful who you listen to. Not every voice speaking into our lives is from God.
We all know social media doesn’t show the whole picture. Podcasts telling us how to “live our best life” usually promote living for ourselves… and we need to be careful about whose advice we allow to shape how we see marriage and fatherhood.

Even our own thoughts can influence how we see marriage, parenthood, and what it means to sacrifice for our family.

Live by God’s truth, not the world’s.

Just remember that we are called to love our wives as Christ loved the church. And that’s a sacrificial love.

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” — Ephesians 5:25

So love your wife. Serve your family. Pick up the slack… and like my friend Topher told me…

Carry the boats, gents.

I probably give myself way too much credit, but I can’t help but feel like I failed my fighter when they lose.

Seth came in, put in the hours, and did everything I asked for and more. Regardless, we still came up short tonight.

Congratulations to Osvaldo on a great performance. He made the adjustments and earned the win. Much respect.

I couldn’t have been happier with the camp we had. We had a great team, and I thought Seth looked great going into the fight.

I truly believed we had the right game plan, and I was expecting his opponent to come in one way. When he changed things up slightly, we weren’t able to adjust. This is a game of inches, and I dropped the ball on that one.

I’m grateful for everyone who showed up, put in the work, and helped prepare Seth for this fight.
One of the scariest prayers we can pray is, “God, Your will be done.”

Because when we truly mean it, we have to fully rely on God. It may not be anything like what we expected. It may hurt. It may leave us with more questions than answers, but it will always be worth it.

His plan will always be better than our plan, even when we don’t understand the outcome… yet.

“Though the righteous falls seven times, they rise again.” — Proverbs 24:16

I will praise God not only on the mountaintops, but in the valleys as well.

Does anyone else do the Christian version of a timeout? 😂😂😂
“Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

As class was coming to an end, lining up was a little rough. We had a few antsy kids, and the perfect Bible verse came to mind.

I told the kids that sometimes, especially when you become an adult, things get out of control and we try to fix everything, control everything, or hold onto things we were never meant to control.

Sometimes we just need to be still and remember that God is in control.

It doesn't mean for us to do nothing and expect great results… but it means that we don't let fear, anger, or circumstances convince us that God has lost control.

Sometimes we do what we can and give it to God, and trust Him.

And that's one of the beautiful things about Scripture because it can speak into so many different situations depending on what season you’re in.

Now, I told the kids this isn't exactly what Psalm 46:10 means theologically… 😂

But when my kids can't sit still…
I put them in the Christian version of a timeout and tell them:
“Be still, reflect on Jesus, and find your peace.”

I told the class they better learn to “be still and find Jesus,” or else nobody was going anywhere!

Man, I was so ecstatic to see so many of those kids already knew Jesus, because they found Him QUICK! 😂😂😂

This week I got to talk to the kids class and adults class about Jacob, the man who wrestled with God and won! But not in the way you think 😂

How often do we wrestle with God’s plan for us because we think our way is better? We want the promise, but we don’t trust the process.

Jacob’s victory wasn’t because he was stronger than God. He won by clinging to Him and refusing to let go. Maybe sometimes our victory isn’t getting God to do things our way, but learning to trust Him, surrender our way, and cling to Him through the process.

Praying we all learn to put God first and truly know what it means to trust in God and not over selves. 🙏🙏🙏
