SO many toys are falsely marketed as Montessori for babies. But here’s the thing…🥰

Typically wooden toys require your baby to do more than battery operated toys. Wooden toys require your baby to problem solve and create around the toy, so the toy ends up being brain powered versus battery powered. And as someone with a degree in child development, I will note that is always positive for their development. 💕

Montessori materials for infants and toddlers are rooted in their concrete reality, have a single intention, have a direct and indirect purpose, and are aimed at supporting an area of development. All in support of their concrete minds as they learn about their world. 🌎

The Object Permanence Box:
Directly: teaches baby that an object still exists even when not in their direct vision
Indirectly: helps directly support the grab and release with their hand that the child is working on at this very stage in development.

SO: are non-Montessori wooden toys bad? Absolutely not. They just serve a different purpose. But are all wooden toys Montessori? Also no.
•
That said: You absolutely get to follow your child and use observation as your baby’s best guide to offer what’s best for them🤍
