Here are 3 types of dinks you can hit on the court! Read caption⬇️
💪PUSH: The “Push Dink” is your go to dink. We call this the “stock” shot at the kitchen line because it’s the shot that most players should be hitting when they are in a dinking exchange at the kitchen. The push dink is the easiest dink to hit - slight hinge of the wrist, swing from the shoulder, and don’t flip your wrist in an effort to help the ball over the net. Just “push” it. This is a great shot to hit under pressure because there’s not a lot that can go wrong with this stroke.
🌀ROLL: The “Roll Dink” requires more skill, and is typically used by higher skilled players when they’re at the kitchen line. The roll dink allows you to apply greater pressure to your opponents because of the pace and spin of the shot. We’ve seen pros on Tour hit dink winners with the roll dink - it’s that aggressive. But with that aggression, comes greater risk. Be sure to practice this shot a lot before breaking it out in a match situation. And, under pressure, watch out - there are a lot of moving parts with the roll dink. Thus, a lot of things can go wrong. Advanced and advanced intermediates only!
🔥SLICE: The “Slice Dink” should be called the “under spin” dink because there really isn’t any slicing involved. Typically hit on the backhand side, this is also a great dink for applying pressure to your opponent, with much more margin of error than with the roll dink given the simplicity of the stroke. The slice dink typically rises above the net then lands on our opponents side with a healthy amount of “bite” on the spin (i.e., spin). This spin can put your opponents into the cooler if they’re not used to it, so the slice dink is definitely worthy of your practice.
Remember, points are won and lost at the kitchen.
A reliable push dink makes you a formidable opponent in any kitchen exchange. Adding a slice dink and/or roll dink to your repertoire will make you an even more imposing player at the line.
Go get it & keep it FUN!
