More activities is not the answer. Neither is waiting it out.

In 40 years of teaching I've watched parents reach for every tactic available — another sport, a new school, stricter consequences at home, waiting for the phase to pass on its own.

Every one of those is a tactic applied to a symptom. The real issue — the thing underneath all of it — is the environment.

A 300-pound man walked into this school about 15 years ago.
He couldn’t look me in the eye.
I asked him one question that nobody had ever asked him before — what do you want?

In 40 years of teaching I’ve watched this pattern more times than I can count. Almost every time — the kid is not the problem. The environment is.
