A Second-Generation Ransomville Racer
Jipp Ortiz of Ransomville, New York, came from one of the area's most important racing families.
His father, Ed Ortiz, was a highly successful racer and a member of the Ransomville Slowpokes, the group that helped establish the original Ransomville Speedway. The Ortiz family connection to Ransomville racing goes all the way back to the track's beginnings in the 1950s.
Jipp eventually carried the family's traditional #0 into his own racing career.
His Pro Stock years is where he made his name. Jipp became one of the dominant drivers in the DIRT Pro Stock division. Ortiz accumulated 56 DIRT Pro Stock feature victories
One of his biggest accomplishments came at Super DIRT Week at Syracuse.
Back-to-Back Syracuse Super DIRT Week Wins, Ortiz made history by becoming the first driver to win back-to-back Super DIRT Week Pro Stock championships in a row.
Super DIRT Week itself later selected Jipp Ortiz as one of its 50 Greatest Drivers of the first 50 years.
That is a particularly significant part of his legacy because he accomplished it in the full-fender Pro Stock division against some of the strongest DIRT competition in the Northeast.
Ortiz was especially successful at Canandaigua Speedway/Land of Legends Raceway.
His career there included an extraordinary 40 Pro Stock victories, described as an all-time track record in the division, along with one Sportsman victory. His career at Canandaigua covered the 2000–2009 period.
After establishing himself as a Pro Stock star, Ortiz moved into the DIRT Sportsman ranks.
His first full Sportsman season was 2006, and he immediately showed that he could compete with the open-wheel cars.
At the 2006 Mr. DIRT Sportsman Series race at the Syracuse Mile, Ortiz finished 4th in the Bicknell/Pogo machine and earned Rookie of the Race honors.
He finished the 2006 Mr. DIRT Sportsman Series season:
4th in points in his rookie season in the division.
Sportsman Success Continued, Ortiz continued to win in the Sportsman division.
In 2009, he won Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series events at
Rolling Wheels Raceway and
Canandaigua Speedway.
Then in 2010, he won the 50-lap Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series event at Rolling Wheels Raceway.
His 2010 season culminated in the Rolling Wheels Raceway Sportsman points championship.

Jipp's connection to racing didn't end when he stepped away from the driver's seat.
He became a longtime flagman, including serving as head starter at Ransomville Speedway and Lancaster Motorplex.
We are honored to have a Legendary driver as always be a part of the MVVDMS racing family. He is a class act with beautiful piece of history and is one of the good guys in racing.
