The concrete forms around the pads were removed on Monday June 8. The initial post-tension cable stressing was completed the same day. This process actively compresses the concrete, neutralizing tensile stresses, preventing cracking, and allowing for longer spans and thinner structures.
The installation of the electrical line for the lighting system and power outlets in the shade shelter is scheduled to begin on Tuesday June 16.

Light piers, fencing, and the shade shelter will also be addressed as construction progresses. There is still additional concrete to be poured for the shade shelter slab, fence footer, and a sidewalk from the parking lot to the courts.

Completion of the work by Sports King is anticipated to be this summer. Weekly updates will be forthcoming until the courts are opened for use. Aerial images provided by Sports King.

Sports King poured both court pads on June 4. The concrete was tested by GeoTex Engineering and approved. The curing process will take a minimum of 30 days before any court surfacing can be applied. This was the largest single construction item in the project to accomplish.

While the concrete is curing, an electrical line will be run from the restroom to the courts for the lighting system and power outlets in the shade shelter. Lighting piers will be installed. There will be some more grading done around the pads. Perimeter and interior fencing will also be addressed in the next phase of construction. There will be additional concrete poured for the shade shelter slab, fence footer, and eventually a sidewalk from the parking lot to the courts. The installation of the shelter is another step in the process.

Completion of the work by SK is still anticipated to be this summer. Weekly updates will be forthcoming until the courts are opened for use.

There will be concrete poured at the Pickleball Courts today!

The construction site and surrounding area will be closed for the day of the pour; however, there will still be access to the Parking Lot, Community Garden, and Restroom. Please be aware of concrete trucks and heavy equipment entering the parking lot.

PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE RESTRICTED AREA DESIGNATED WITH CONSTRUCTION TAPE!

Sports King (SK) has installed the moisture barrier (black fabric shown in photo) which will mitigate potential issues from moisture rising from below the surfaced courts. The surfacing (i.e., “painting”) of the courts and lines will be applied in the latter part of the project.

The post-tension cables that are used in the concrete to reinforce the slab (see photo example) are scheduled to be delivered on-site on Tuesday April 7. The construction contractor will be on-site for several days installing the final forms and tendons. The engineer that did the post tension slab design will inspect the forms and cables to ensure that it has been built according to his specifications before the concrete is poured. The third party geotechnical engineering firm hired by the LKPOA to test materials and observe work will also be contacted to inspect the work. Once the inspections are complete, the process of starting to pour concrete can begin. There will be a minimum of three phases to pour the concrete. The first pour is anticipated to begin the week of April 20. Each pour will be tested by the geotechnical engineering firm. The concrete will need 30-45 days to cure before it can be surfaced. Other work can be accomplished during the curing period.

SK anticipates substantial completion of their work in June, subject to weather and other factors. Weekly updates will be forthcoming until the courts are opened for use.

For your safety, please stay out of the construction area!

Lesa McRae shared that Nancy and Rich will be hosting a special Q&A session at the Lodge this Wednesday at 4:30 PM. The meeting is open to anyone who would like to hear the latest updates or ask questions about the progress on our new pickleball courts.

And while we’re at it, please join me in congratulating Lesa McRae on her new seat on the Lake Kiowa Board! With both Lesa and Chris Hale serving, the pickleball community now has strong representation moving forward!

Kiowa Pickleball Board Member, Paul Sellers, will be leading lessons for beginners and a little more experienced players. A great opportunity before our four new pickleball courts are finished!

New Pickleball Courts Update

The latest Select Fill sample results have come back from Terradyne and are positive and acceptable to proceed.

Sports King had retained a civil engineer and has received a grading plan.

Next step is a site visit with Sports King, their civil engineer, and the foundation subcontractor. Momentum....

Pickleball Community,

Today, members of the current and future Pickleball Boards met with Sports King and members of the POA. The meeting went very well. We should all see construction activity at the build site starting the middle of next week! The build process will take several weeks. Considering the work to be completed, and the usual delays (weather, etc), we anticipate a realistic completion date around March 1st. The scope of the project has not changed and we look forward to enjoying our pickleball facility soon.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Mike
