The pickleballĀ 4th shotĀ is one of the most overlooked shots—but if you choose the right shot based on the height of the ball at contact, you’ll win a LOT more pointsšŸ‘‡

šŸ“Ā Below the net:Ā Defend. Lift it and reset.

šŸ“Ā Just above the net:Ā Roll it with topspin to the midcourt.

šŸ“Ā Shoulder height or higher:Ā Attack & Put it away!

Stop thinking about the same shot every time. Let theĀ height of the ballĀ make the decision for you.

Will a new pickleball bag make you a better pickleball player? Probably not šŸ˜‚

But if you’re in the market for one anyway… the new Selkirk Pro Line 2.0 Tour Bag is pretty hard to beat.

It’s 35L and actually designed specifically for pickleball with 4 protected paddle sleeves, a magnetic quick-access ball pocket, a separate breathable shoe compartment, tons of storage, and a wide-mouth magnetic top that makes it super easy to grab what you need between games.

Basically, it holds an unreasonable amount of pickleball stuff while somehow keeping it all organized šŸ™ƒ

And the quality on this thing is šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼ Weather-resistant, tear-resistant, and built to survive being thrown around the court.

Your first instinct at the kitchen line should be to take the ball out of the air.

You know how you can immediatly tell you’re not doing that— one of your feet will take a small step back…

That tiny step back says that your instinct wasn’t to take it out of the air — it was to let it bounce.

In pickleball, if you’re truly ready to take the ball out of the air, your feet should stay parallel to the kitchen line so you’re balanced, athletic, and maximizing your reach.

Foot back = less reach.
Parallel base = full extension and control.

I used to rush to the kitchen line after every third shot! šŸ˜… Here’s what changed my game: I started watching my opponents’ paddles instead of just running forward.

If their paddle is dipping down after my third shot, I know I can come forward safely. If it’s up high, I definitely stay back and wait for a better opportunity.

And here’s my return strategy: I always aim for the back fourth of the court. This gives me maximum time to get set at the kitchen line AND makes their third shot way harder!

When I see a speed up opportunity, I’m taking it - but I’m not just hitting it anywhere. I have specific targets I’m aiming for to win the point.

Ever find yourself flicking your wrist on every d**k and then wondering why the ball keeps popping up?

I used to do this ALL the time and it made my d**ks so unpredictable! Here’s my little pickleball secret: keep your grip loose but your wrist firm.

Let your shoulder and forearm do the work, not your wrist! It helps your game so much and totally eliminates those pop-ups at the kitchen line.

Want better volleys? Stop trying to hit the ball so hard šŸ™…ā€ā™€ļø

The biggest mistake I see is taking way too big of a backswing. The best volleyers don’t rely on a big swing—they rely on great positioning, clean contact, and a compact motion.

Try this 3-step progression:

1ļøāƒ£ Catch the ball. No paddle. Just have a partner toss balls to you at the kitchen line. You don’t need a backswing to catch a ball, and that’s exactly the feeling you’re after.

2ļøāƒ£ Bump it back. Grab your paddle and simply block the ball back to your partner. No swing—just a controlled bump.

3ļøāƒ£ Add acceleration. Once that feels natural, add a small forward acceleration through contact. That’s where you’ll develop a clean, compact counter volley without ever taking the paddle back.
