Multi-talented wrestlers! Lakeside performed Matilda the Musical this weekend and 9 wrestlers were part of the show! (And one coach in the pit orchestra :)
If you know the musical, you know many of the roles are a HUGE challenge, but our wrestlers stepped up and glorified God with their varied gifts!
Congratulate Lucy Kuchta, Ashlyn Jones, Haylie Reese, Katie Abel, Amelia Foster, Landon Wolski, Carter Hendricks, Sam Garcia, and Alan Burris on a delightful, mysterious, and hilarious performance of Matilda the Musical!
Angelic solos, fabulous bombasticness, hitting lines, hitting marks, making sure the lights follow that goofy Mr Wormwood, staying with the group, dancing with energy, anthemic wide gestures, fainting convincingly without hurting yourself….
These wrestlers BROUGHT it!
We wrestle (and act and stage manage and tech crew and make music) for God’s glory!

Senior Spotlight: Gabe Weidner embodies our mantra — “I Wrestle for God’s Glory.”
Gabe Weidner is a hard-working, passionate student at Lakeside Lutheran who lives with his parents, Matt and Becky, and his three siblings, Noah, Ellie, and Simon. He is dedicated to service and discipline, shown by how he spends his free time: lifting weights, playing the drums, and working at his job at Kwik Trip.
Through extracurricular activities, Weidner has worked on leadership skills. He wrestled four years and has been a team captain for two. He also participates in the band and is now the leader of the percussion section. The percussion ensemble he is part of has qualified for WSMA state all four years of his high school career. Other organizations that he has participated in include the National Honor Society, Jazz Band, and summer marching band.
Outside of school, he also finds time to serve his community. He volunteers at church by ushering, serving Easter breakfast, and assisting with various other church events. He also volunteers at his former grade school by refereeing soccer and helping paint the field.
After Lakeside, Weidner wants to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering for a degree in mechanical engineering. He also wants to participate in Air Force ROTC while at MSOE and to become an Air Force officer after graduating from college. He is thankful to be chosen as a Junior Rotarian and is eager to learn from the Rotary Club’s extensive generosity and service work.

Your Lakeside Lutheran Warrior wrestling teams had an incredible run this season!
We capped off our season with a trip to the Kohl Center in Madison. John Clum was our only competitor, but we had lots of support from the rest of the team, whether in person from the stands, following the tournament on USA Bracketing, or just keeping John and the team in their thoughts and prayers.
John competed extremely tough, but came up short as a 12 seed in a tough 132 pound bracket. On Thursday night, John struggled mightily against a tough Belmont/Platteville #5 seed opponent. Then on Thursday afternoon he ran into a 30-2 senior from Osceola, the #4 seed who got upset by the #13 seed the night before.
The team enjoyed some fun bonding at the tournament, whether in the seats watching high-level competition, walking around the Kohl Center spending too much money on concessions, or finding interesting places to have discussions in the state Capitol building.
God is so good, and he has blessed this team with such an amazing first year for the girls team, and a huge morale-boosting successful season for the boys.
God builds us and refines us through both successes and losses. We are so THANKFUL for his grace and his blessings on our team this season.
We pray that next season will pick up right where we left off!

The Lakeside girls wrestling team wrestled incredibly tough, scored some takedowns, and won a match at Sectionals hosted by Kettle Moraine on Friday. Junior Lucy Kuchta won her first match by pinfall with a dominant half Nelson, but ran into tough competition from a skilled bracket in the later rounds. Lucy finished fourth place and made the podium! Congratulations, Lucy!!!
The other Sectional qualifying Warrior wrestlers ran into tough competition in their first matchups. We had tough battles from freshmen Bridget Schilling and Gwendolyn Forster, sophomore Lamayra Schmidt, and Senior Haylie Reese.
