Did you know: Curling scoring disputes can be solved with the help of laser measure! This tiny device measures the distance from the button (center of the scoring circle) to the stones. In this photo, the green team's stone was closer to the button by only one millimeter.

Curling World Champion Bill Todhunter met with some of our skips yesterday to share his experience and offer tips for skipping at the club level. It was such an honor to learn from one of the greats!

Todhunter won the U.S. National Men's Curling Championship in 2004 and 2007. He represented Team USA twice, winning a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championship in Edmonton, Alberta.

NOTE: There is less ice available to us this fall, so we are capping the sign-ups at 48 full-time players. This cap will minimize byes and double headers, and guarantee that all teams get 11 games.

Not sure what to wear out on the ice? Here's our handy guide for anyone looking to curl with us.

SHOES - Athletic shoes work well (make sure the soles are clean!). No raised heels or flip flops!

PANTS - Wear stretchy pants that allow you to move freely (leggings, activewear, sweatpants). Please NO JEANS - they leave cotton on the ice.

Layers are recommended, as it can be cold on the ice (but you may warm up with all that sweeping!). Gloves and thick socks are helpful.

Good food, good friends, good curling! One of the best curling traditions in the sport is going "broomstacking" after games - in which players from both teams set down their brooms and socialize, usually over a pint. Broomstacking builds camaraderie and is a great way to get to know the curlers in your local club or meet traveling teams during competitions.
