More pictures will be following in the next few days, but here are notes from our first airgun match.
"The very first LRPC Airgun match is in the books. Aside from some minor bench labeling issues (my fault entirely), the match was a great success.
We had 16 airgun shooters and 2 rimfire shooters. i was hoping some of the clubs rimfire guys would show up, but i understand, getting beat by a bb gun is not good for the ego!! just joking of course.
We did the 100 yard benchrest in the morning to try and stay away from the gale force winds. it was a good decision, although there was still some pretty good wind on the range.
After the 100, we switched over to the 50 yard using the Eley X-Shot target, and tried to use the electronic scoring from Eley. Unfortunately, the scoring system did not work as intended. it would have been so nice if it would have. The wind for the 50 was really howling, with up to 20 mph gusts, and tornado like vortexes inside the 50 shooting zone. This range is no joke when it comes to wind, and all of our shooters realized it quickly.
Which brings us to the scoring. As airgunners we know that scoring takes a while, but our volunteers were blindsided by it. it truly is a pain to try and score these huge targets, even though there is only one hole in each bullseye.
Our club volunteers, Bruce Maccia who called the match, Chris Maccia, Bryan Bennet, Lester Witman, and Jeffery Sasser all did a wonderful job. We could not have succeeded without their help. So much appreciation.
We had 3 shooters from Jacksonville, 1 from Merritt Island, 2 from Ft. Lauderdale, 1 from Okeechobee, and one from Jensen Beach. The rest were within an hour and a half. This just shows you how dedicated the airgun community is and miles we will drive to go to a good match. Everyone really liked the range, and said that they want to come here again. I would call that a success.
Thanks to LRPC for allowing this match to happen, and hopefully we will have many more.
thank you,
Calvin Lewis"

We're excited to kick off our new Air Rifle Benchrest Match series starting next Saturday, APRIL 11! If you've never seen what a modern precision air rifle can do at 50 and 100 yards, you might be surprised — these are serious, high-end precision machines, and the accuracy is genuinely impressive.
Here's the quick rundown:
- Registration 7:15–7:45 AM | Match starts at 8:00 AM
- $45 — lunch included!
- LRPC club members and non-members are welcome (members get priority if full)
- Where: 100-yard Range, Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club, 2000 Lasso Ln, Lakeland FL
These matches use high-end P*P (pre-charged pneumatic) air rifles — think precision benchrest shooting, not backyard plinking. Spring guns, CO2, and BB guns are not a fit for this match. If you use other types of air rifles, check out our OOPS matches — visit lakelandgunclub.com for details on those.
Full match info and rules, check our website (Events & Matches) at lakelandgunclub.com
If you know someone who'd enjoy this, feel free to share — Facebook doesn't always show posts from clubs like ours, so word of mouth means a lot!

April is approaching rapidly and loads of things have been going on at the club. The installation of target frame hardware has been ongoing this last month. Hats off to Dan, Paul, and Bob and all those not mentioned to the incredibly long, detailed and what looks like tedious work. The work crew along with staff designed and built the new frames, installed them and placed protective posts to ensure long life of the new frames. Wow! Enjoy the pictures of their hard work and progress thus far!
