Who’s there? Snow. Snow who?

Snow body likes to shovel the driveway......But luckily, our Mountain Ops crew loves moving it around and keeping our equipment ready to go!

While you're resting up for winter, the team is already hard at work tuning up the snow groomers and prepping the mountain. Huge shoutout to the crew making sure our corduroy is flawless when opening day rolls around! 🚜🗻

Fall is settling in around the mountain.

The mornings are cooler. The leaves are starting to turn. And somewhere between the last days of summer and the first snow, something changes.

We start looking up.

Toward the summit.
Toward the lifts.
Toward that first chair of the season.

For some, winter starts with the first snowfall.

For us, it starts a little earlier, with the anticipation, the preparation, and the feeling that another season on our mountain is just around the corner.

Soon enough, we'll be standing at the top, clicking in, and asking the only question that really matters:

September is in full swing, and Blacktail is in that funny little stretch between seasons. Shorts, sandals, and a vest? Or is your cold weather wardrobe out?

The summer crowds are thinning out. The evenings are getting cooler. The trails are taking on their fall colors. Your Mountain is starting to think about winter.

There’s still time to get outside and enjoy Blacktail before summer adventures wind down, but there’s also plenty happening behind the scenes as we get ready to welcome everyone back for another winter.

This weekend:
🏔️ Get up the mountain and enjoy the views
🚙 Explore the OHV trails while summer gives way to fall
🎯 Get outside and make one more Blacktail memory
⛷️ Start thinking about the season ahead season passes and Snow Sports School registration are open

You’ve probably skied it. You may have a favorite line down it.

And if you’ve spent enough time at Blacktail, you’ve probably heard someone say, “Let’s take Emmons.”

But there’s more to this stretch of mountain than a familiar name on the trail map.

Emmons Ridge is one of those places where Blacktail’s landscape, history and ski culture all come together. It’s a long, sweeping run off Thunderhead Chair, with room to find your winter rhythm. And on a clear summer day, a pretty spectacular view of Flathead Lake waiting below.

The name Emmons shows up beyond the ski area, too. Just west of the mountain, Emmons Saddle and Emmons Spring are part of the Foys to Blacktail trail system, connecting the mountain to a much bigger landscape and history.

So next time you’re standing at that trail sign, take a second.

You’re not just skiing a run. You’re skiing a piece of the mountain.

Those moments are why we love watching kids learn on the mountain.

At Blacktail, every lesson is about more than learning to ski or snowboard. It's about building confidence, balance, independence, and discovering what they're capable of next.

This season, we're celebrating those moments with the "Watch Them Grow" series highlighting the little victories, big breakthroughs, and everything in between.

A little Blacktail history to start the week.

Blacktail Mountain opened in December 1998.

That means there are nearly three decades of first turns, first powder days, family ski days, school groups, races, friendships, stories, and probably a few questionable fashion choices woven into this mountain.

And we're pretty sure some of those stories are sitting in your photo albums.

Who named them? Were they named for local people? Geography or Wildlife Historical events or some inside jokes?

Old mountain lore? Like Meadow off of the Thunderhead Chair?
