For many swimmers, learning to swim isn’t about learning everything at once. 💦

It’s about breaking the process down into individual steps… learning each one, building confidence, and then slowly connecting those steps together until swimming becomes a safe, successful sequence.

This swimmer has done such an AMAZING job! 🥹🩷

She has worked hard to learn each step, build confidence, and understand what to do in the water. Now we’re watching those individual skills come together as she become a stronger, more confident, and SAFE swimmer.

This is why we celebrate progress — not perfection. Every little step matters, and every new connection is a big accomplishment! 🏊‍♀️🩷

🩷 Down Syndrome & Why Learning to Swim Matters 🩷

For children with Down syndrome, learning to swim is about so much more than learning a skill; it can be an incredibly important part of water safety, confidence, independence, and lifelong enjoyment of the water. 🏊‍♀️

Children with Down syndrome may experience differences in muscle tone, balance, coordination, motor planning, and processing. That’s why swimming instruction should be patient, individualized, and adapted to the child, rather than expecting every swimmer to learn the same way.

At Manda’s Minnows, we believe every child deserves to feel successful and safe in the water. 🩷 We meet each swimmer where they are, build trust first, celebrate the small victories, and work at a pace that supports their individual needs.

Most importantly, we want our swimmers to develop skills that can help them respond safely if they ever find themselves in or around the water unexpectedly.

Water safety is our passion—and every child deserves the opportunity to learn. 🐟💦

🌩️ A little reminder for our Manda’s Minnows families! 🩷

We do our very best to watch the weather and cancel lessons ahead of time whenever possible. However, in Florida, lightning can develop and move in very quickly and sometimes seemingly out of nowhere.

As an outdoor swim business, safety will always come first. If lightning is nearby, we will pause or cancel lessons until it is safe to return.

We know unexpected cancellations can be frustrating, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We will always choose safety over taking a risk with our students or our instructors. 🐠🩷

💦 Look at this sweet girl working SO hard! 💕🐠

At just 2 years old, she is learning her swim-turn to float-return to swim sequence, and she is doing an amazing job! 👏🏼

We teach these skills in this order because we’re not just teaching a child to swim for today; we’re building a foundation for the skills they’ll need as they grow. 🏊🏼‍♀️

As she gets older and becomes a more advanced swimmer, we can naturally progress her turn-to-float into a side breath and continue building strong, efficient swimming skills. 🩷

She has been working SO hard, and every little improvement is something to celebrate! 🌟 We are so proud of her progress and love watching her confidence grow in the water! 🥰

That’s why we teach our students to swim, turn to float, and return to swimming again. This sequence gives the skills to pause, get a breath, regain control, and continue moving safety through the water.

Safe swimming is about more than just getting to the wall—it’s about knowing what to do when there isn’t one. 🩷🏊‍♀️
