Highway 130 is open for the season!!!

⚠ LARAMIE, Wyo. – The seasonally closed section of Wyoming Highway 130 through the Snowy Range has officially reopened for the season.
Crews from Laramie and Saratoga began work on the 12-mile stretch of the scenic byway in mid-April, using multiple rotary plows and other heavy equipment to clear large snow drifts.
The highway is one of several high-elevation mountain roads in Wyoming that closes annually in late autumn when relatively low traffic and deep snow accumulations render plowing operations impractical. The scenic byway, which tops out at 10,800 feet in the Snowy Range, closed for the winter season on November 26.
Although the highway is now open to traffic, motorists should stay alert as they travel through the mountain pass. Severe weather is still possible at higher elevations in late spring, including heavy, wet, intense snowstorms.

Pole mountain roads are open!!!!

From the forest service
Access Update - All Pole Mountain roads are open

Campgrounds are not yet open for the 2026 season.

(Laramie, WY, April 23, 2026) – All National Forest System roads on the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest are now open for public motorized travel. Public safety and natural resource sustainability were taken into consideration with the decision.

Developed campgrounds on the Pole Mountain unit remain seasonally closed for the time being.

U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service personnel recently completed seasonal road maintenance, cheatgrass spraying, and hazard tree removal in multiple locations. The completion of those projects, along with dry ground conditions, allowed the Laramie Ranger District to assess public resources and declare all roads on the unit suitable for motorized use.

The Forest Service would like to stress that even as roads reopen, motorized users must stay on designated routes and may not travel off-road. Those traveling through the National Forest should pay attention to signage and refer to the Pole Mountain Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for details. MVUMs are free and available online.

Pole Mountain visitors are reminded that along the 700 Road (Vedauwoo Road) and all its’ spur roads, dispersed camping is only allowed in designated locations.

Additionally, annual shooting restrictions are in effect across the entire Pole Mountain unit. The seasonal shooting restrictions prohibit the discharge of fi****ms from March 31 - Sept. 10.

Seasonal road closures on Pole Mountain are established and annual. Gates are closed Feb. 1 each year to protect roadbeds and natural resources from misuse and illegal off-roading, which has previously resulted in long-term damage. The determination to seasonally close roads on Pole Mountain during snowmelt and/or wet conditions is a result of the 2017 Pole Mountain Travel Management project decision.

Located north of Interstate 80 between Laramie and Cheyenne, the Pole Mountain unit encompasses approximately 55,000 acres on the Medicine Bow National Forest. The area experiences heavy year-round usage from the Laramie, Cheyenne, and Fort Collins areas.

Lake Hattie 2/10/26
Lake Hattie has a significant amount of open water, probably 40+ percent of the lake. Most shorelines are soft or open with fishable open water sections in several parts, including the first bay before the houses, several sections in the narrows, and almost the entirety of the west end of the lake up to the canal to upper Hattie.
If you are looking for open water fishing, this is probably your best bet in the Laramie area for this week We would be surprised to find fishable ice other than by the dam, even with the cooler nights.

Twin Buttes 2/10/26
Capped this morning at 30 degrees outside, after a couple open spots this past weekend. Shoreline is thin or open for 6 to 8 feet. Had reports from this weekend with mostly 4-5” with up to 7” reported. Our current report would be .5(shoreline) to 5”+, make sure to check as you go as we did have some open spots on the lake over the weekend.
