Raiders young QBs in Fernando Mendoza and Aidan O’Connell had a hard, tough time against the 1st-team defense on day 2 of minicamp today.

Raiders vet QB Kirk Cousins was resting most of practice which gave 1st team reps to Mendoza and O’Connell.

Mendoza accuracy wasn’t on point and would’ve been sacked twice by EDGE Malcolm Koonce and DT JJ Pegues. O’Connell was picked off by rookie S Dalton Johnson on a deep ball to WR Phillip Dorsett. But Johnson might’ve gotten away with defensive holding.

Either way, mistakes will be made during training camp and it is better to make mistakes now than in real game situations. It’s all a learning process especially for Fernando Mendoza! 🏴‍☠️

🚨 The Raiders have signed former Steelers WR Brandon Johnson , who is the cousin of legendary WR Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.

Brandon Johnson has connections to both Raiders HC Klint Kubiak and WR coach Zach Azzanni. He played with the Broncos in 2022 when Kubiak was the QB coach and passing game coordinator.

He also was coached under Azzanni back in 2016, when Johnson was a freshman at Tennessee. Azzanni was the WR coach then, and they crossed paths again in 2024 and 2025 when Johnson was a Steeler and Azzanni the WR coach.

The Raiders got a familiar face for their coaching staff to work with! 🏴‍☠️

Raiders Undrafted Free Agent rookie WR Corey Rucker was placed on the reserve/injured list.

Rucker was a record-setting WR at Arkansas State who had an outside chance to make the team or practice squad. However, he sustained a injury in mandatory minicamp, which ends his season 🏴‍☠️

Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza was named in the inaugural TIME100 Most Influential People in Sports list by Time Magazines Sr. Correspondent Sean Gregory.

Raiders WR Shedrick Jackson was the biggest playmaker at the Raiders Mandatory Minicamp today, according to Raiders team reporter Levi Edwards.

“In team period and 7-on-7, he recorded at least five receptions, including a long touchdown grab from Kirk Cousins. What made Jackson’s showing impressive was his versatility as he made plays at outside receiver and in the slot. While he’s shown flashes at times throughout OTAs, Tuesday morning felt more like a standout practice.”

With more competition at WR this season, Bo Jackson’s great nephew Shedrick is working hard to make the team! 🏴‍☠️

Today was the Raiders 1st day of Mandatory Minicamp and everyone was there besides LB Nakobe Dean and CB Jermod McCoy.

McCoy is supposedly still in recovery from his “bone plug” procedure, which caused red flags from other teams to draft him. He also has yet to sign his rookie contract, so those are the current concerns.

Dean has missed almost all of voluntarily OTAs and today’s mandatory minicamp. However, he was there yesterday for Media day. There are many questions surrounding him. Rumors have stated that he might be dealing with a small injury. He was just signed to a brand new FA contract by the Raiders so let’s hope it doesn’t have to do with contract concerns.
