❤️Stetson Wright❤️ earns saddle bronc title in Canby
Stetson Wright found his feet in bull riding last week after returning from knee surgery, winning the Farm-City Pro Rodeo Aug. 12 in Hermiston, Ore.
The 10-time PRCA World Champion returned to form in saddle bronc riding this weekend during the Canby (Ore.) Rodeo Aug. 18-22.
Wright matched Calgary Stampede's Einstein's Quest on Friday night, Aug. 21, for an 89.5-point ride to earn the win.
"It's pretty easy when I surround myself with my family," Wright said in the arena after his ride when asked how he stayed sharp while being sidelined. "They're all winners, so it's super easy to stay in the winning mindset year-round. I'm just lucky to be able to travel down the road with them, and it makes winning more fun and easier."
Wright's brother Rusty Wright leads the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings in saddle bronc riding, three-time champ Ryder Wright sits second, Stetson is third and their youngest brother, defending world champ, Statler Wright is 22nd.
Brody Wells made a run at the top spot on the final night of competition in Moses Lake with an 88-point ride on Bridwell Pro Rodeos' Big Diesel to finish second.
Wright's victory marked his first in saddle bronc since an 87-point ride on Scarlett Lady carried him to a title at the Bee Hive Roundup May 15-16 in Richfield, Utah.
The 27-year-old from Beaver, Utah, made his return to competition on Aug. 8 at the Cache County Fair and Rodeo in Logan, Utah, after being sidelined since July 14 after having knee surgery.
"My plan moving forward is just take it one day at a time," said Wright in a PRCA video after his return in Logan. "After taking a little break, I feel super good. I wouldn't even say tonight (Aug. 😎 didn't go my way, because it did. It is the best my body has felt all year long. Regardless of no score (in bull riding), it is not a big deal because everything felt good and fired good and we are going to head down to Jerome (Idaho) and Hermiston, (Ore.), and kick things off that way.
"We are healthy, wealthy, handsome and happy and ready to roll."
Entering competition on Saturday, Aug. 22, Wright sat atop the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings in the all-around race with nearly a $200,000 lead, third in the saddle bronc standings with $201,626 and fourth in bull riding with $196,216.
