Our men took part in the John Kings Rocky Classic this past weekend. It was a quick turnaround from Vegas Worlds but it’s tough to resist a tourney this big in your own backyard.
We started off in Friday afternoon at Leon Young taking on Heartless boys. It was a close battle the entire game, defense was strong on both sides. Heartless walked it off in the bottom of the 7th to win 8-7. Knocking us to the losers bracket early.
On Saturday morning, we took on Animals. Bats came out a little stronger Saturday, it was another close game. We ended up taking it 19-18 thanks to a walk-off homerun by Clark Ennis.
Next up was Swinging Willys. The game was low scoring once again, neither team able to pull away. We got a lightning delay midway through the game. After a 30 minute delay, we came out strong putting up 16 in the next inning. Holding onto the run rule lead 21-9 with our defense and some great pitching by Tristan Sullivan.
Due to one field being behind and no lights at Leon Young, our 6pm game got moved to Skyview Saturday morning. We came out Sunday morning on a mission. Facing Risk Takers at 7am. We came out swinging and played solid defense to win 26-7, offically bringing us to day 3 of the tourney.
After a game break we took on Denver Deck Builders. As usual the game started close but we pulled away after a big inning and held onto win the game 24-11.
After another break we took on our first out of state team of the tournament in Strictly Business/LA Empire. We jumped out to a huge 13-3 lead in the first. After that our bats went cold. SB chipped away every inning until they would inevitably take the win 18-17 and bringing our day to an end.
Shoutout to our all tournament team selection Joey Rotello. Joey set the tone both only with his bat, but with his energy all weekend.
This tourney did not go the way we wanted it to. But after losing the first game we battled hard to finish in 4th (4-2). Overall a good weekend for the men’s team.
