If you only focus on quick wins on your handstand, you’re going to miss out on the foundations building block of progressive strength and proper technique.

Tomorrow is 1000 days sober.
Hundreds of millions of people all have their own individual experiences with sobriety. Some still crave alcohol. Some gag at the mere thought of it. Here’s my two cents:
Things I miss:
- Beer. Breweries. Sharing a celebratory pint with friends. I’d be lying if I said I don’t miss it dearly.
Things I don’t miss:
- Wasting time, money, and calories on something that gives me nothing in return.
- Not being able to control when I stop.
- Feeling like recycled dog sh*t for the first few hours of every day.
- Not remembering important details about the night before.
- The daily anxiety that comes from not remembering.
- Never being able to get in peak physical condition no matter how hard I trained.
- Late night uncontrolled food binges because I lost all self control...thus the not getting in shape thing.
- Making up excuses to always have a drink regardless of the situation.
- Being nervous in social situations that I was the drunkest person in the room (or was going to be).
- Wondering if my co-workers can smell it on me.
- The discomfort when the people around me weren’t drinking as hard as I was.
- The apologies...the f*cking apologies. A regular humiliation ritual.
So my trade off for the last 1000 days is that I have to simply live with the fact that I will forever miss breweries and beer culture, and in return I allow myself to get rid of everything on the other list.
This investment is the definition of asymmetric. A no brainer.
Here’s to another 1000 days.
Cheers.

Handstand training is all about habits. Good inputs make for good outputs. Do the little things right with attention to technique, detail, and form…and you won’t have a bunch of things that need fixing later :)

Handstand tip for beginners: Don’t sleep on the basics just because you’re excited to progress to more intermediate skills.
Every high-level hand balancer I’ve ever learned from all had this in common. They got their advanced skills because their foundations were totally locked in.
