Elvis spirit lives on in Vegas!!!
The Downtown Rhinos hosted Ombac Rugby club from San Diego on a scorcher of a Saturday. Both teams were looking for the big win. Very physical game and great commitment from both teams. The Rhinos were first to draw blood and got the first score of the day, on 25 mins #10 Elvis Seveali'i chipped the Ombac defence on the half way and got the bounce to gather and nip in just left of the up rights. Converting his own try, DTR were up 7-0. Ombac came back straight from the restart and set themselves up nicely on 33 mins for #14 Peyer Judd scoring a well worked try. #10 Chris Redmond getting the conversion. DTR found some good rhythm and built a few nice phases allowing #5 Erik Zentz getiing in for there 2nd try on 37mins. Elvis again getting the conversion. The last few mins of the first half were back and forth. DTR were awarded a penalty which Elvis chips over and Rhinos go in at the half 10 points clear 17-7.....
The 2nd half started good for both teams. Some great phases of play going back and forth. Ombac score a try on 30mins by #9 Kevin Broussard. But miss the conversion. 2mins later the momentum of the game came to a halt for about 20mins to care for the Ombac injured 2nd row. The first score after the break was going to be crucial. Ombac manged to set up a good counter attack and were rewarded with a try by #15 Garrett Jones. Again unable to convert the try. We were now at a tie 17-17 with about 8mins left in the game. Both teams battling in midfield, looking to break through the defence. DTR manage to lose possession on the halfway line. Ombac try to set up an attack, but instead gift DTR a penalty. At the death on 80mins and about 45 meters out Elvis cranks over the winner. The Downtown Rhinos win 20-17.....

Another Classic game on the road by the Downtown Rhinos. It was a bright and sunny day Saturday, DTR traveled to Santa Monica, but they only had 14 men, but decided to play anyway....
Tough game and the RHINOS dug deep. Tries from Jason Williamson, 2 from Steve Allen and the rest of the tries/points came from Dingo aka Hayden Randell. Very competitive game, Santa Monica straight away tried to stretch the Rhinos defence and attack out wide. Were trying to utilise that extra man. Rhinos defence was mostly solid and some great last ditch tackles and great discipline. Only giving away a few penalty's. Both teams had lots of possession and a willingness to attack. It came down to the 78th min. Rhinos were down 28-30. Dingo stepped up and nailed a penalty from about 45 meters out (angled!) The last 60 secs of the game was hectic. Rhinos pinned on there own 5 meter line. Manage to kick the ball out of play. Game Over.....
Rhinos get the big WIN. 31-30. Some adult beverages were had on the way home...

Tough weekend for the Downtown Rhinos. Travelled down to the Rhino facility Friday night. Game day was Saturday. Belmont Shore had the majority of the possession and converted into scores through some good forward momentum. A couple of big units doing a lot of the damage close to the ruck. DTR were on the back foot for most of the first half, but came out in the second and controlled the game a little better. But were still unable to get points on the board. DTR will take the loss and learn, regroup and look forward to this weekend. Where we play OMBAC down in San Diego. A BIG Thank You once again to our Sponsors 'RHINOS' if you have kids interested in the game of rugby please reach out to www.rugbytrainingacademy.com
