A week ago today our baby boy was prematurely born. Not expecting the baby for 2 more months, plus not knowing the gender, we were caught off guard, to say the least.
"It's a Boy!" the doctor said. As we both looked at each other as we saw him for the first time, together, in utter amazement. What a miracle. Born on Yom Kippur, God smiles on us. Due on 11/6, it was surprising when the doctors called his birth time at 11:06. Correct numbers, wrong format.
It's been an emotional week, to say the least. From the first cry, knowing baby Broz is breathing on his own, to watching him eat for the first time while smiling and looking at me have all been nothing short of breathtaking.
In this first week of life, he's already been able to beat jaundice, gain 1/2 of his post-birth weight loss back, increase his caloric intake by 400%, and get his IV removed.
When I was born, my mom was kept in the hospital with me until after her birthday. Baby Broz will have to remain in the NICU for a while, and tomorrow, my birthday, we will be here with him. I can not think of a better birthday present than to be with my wife and new son.
Feeling the heat from the records department wanting to file his birth certificate and social security info, we were under the gun to pick a name. Today we made it legal.
Welcome to the world, Milo Broz.

My mom recently reminded me that when I was 4 I told her I was going to invent something. It took a while, but now it’s official. I received a U.S. Patent on our ABG Stretch Tape. This tape is unique and now we have proof. It is lighter, stickier, sweat resistant and more flexible than all other hookgrip and weightlifting tapes, making it superior by far.
When I saw holding the patents for his slingshot I was inspired. I immediately wanted the same thing. 3 years later, here we are. Doing the entire process myself there were ups and downs. Each time I hit a hurdle I kept thinking of his photo holding those papers and I would repeat to myself my life’s motto: “How hard can it be?” I’ve always believed that if someone has accomplished something before me then I know its possible, be it fixing a car, lifting a weight or inventing something. Seeing his photo in my head reminded me that it was possible and that I would succeed. I don’t know Mark, but I’d guess that of all the motivational content he has posted, the last thing he would have imagined was to influence someone to get a patent. Thank you, Mark for the inspiration and reminding me of my dream of becoming an official inventor. It was a fun journey, and another box to check on my bucket list.
