This is Sonya - another admin posting! I just wanted to congratulate our fearless leader Karen today as she rides LIVE in a Peloton class in NY! Her journey to health and wellness has been an inspiration to us all. Peloton has been a godsend - something she found that she truly loves and works for her. Helping enable her to do many other active things that she wants to do. Showing us all that it's never to late to START, find something you love, keep at it, challenge yourself, LIVE. Enjoy your ride today Karen, a bucket list item you can check off the list. One of many that you will accomplish this year. Proud of you.

She was a stay at home mom, for the most part. Had not been out in the work force. Certainly not the industrial workforce. But war came and the men went off to war and the women were left at home to do the work the men left behind. So by the hundreds...thousands even, woman packed a metal lunch box, donned some coveralls and headed off to the factory to build the machines of war their men would ne

I have been focused on my health and fitness in a serious way since Juky 2022 - a good solid 19 months. The first 6 months was focused on eating only. I did a little activity but not consistently. In January 2023 I added in a fitness training component. Peloton. I have been doing power zone training over a year consistantly now.
I had reached my goal weight byJuly 2023 and have maintained that weight. I love my training on the bike that goes nowhere because I know my workout for that day and just do it. I have a person who designs the training for us on The Power Zone Pack.
Today was the end of one of our 8 week training plans - we call them challenges. One of the things I like about this training is that it’s quantifiable because we take a fitness test at the end of each one called the FTP. It measures your functional threshold power. A true FTP test would be a one hour time trial on a bike. But they scale it to 20 minutes and do a calculation to make a determination of what that number would be. When I started, my number was very low. But it doesn’t really matter because when you’re working within your zones, you are getting all of the benefit of even what the fit people are getting. It’s called scaling. I have more than doubled my FTP in the course of a year. As a result of that when I go hiking or doing five Kay’s I enjoy the benefit of that fitness. when I head to Spain in May to walk 100 km of the Camino de Santiago, I will be prepared and confident in my ability to get it done. So there you have it! At this point I am 150 pounds less than my highest weight, and two times fitter than I was a year ago today. I am excited for my next adventure on the bike, which is a climb challenge that starts tomorrow. Then I have another six week power zone challenge that will end just as I leave for Spain. This keeps me honest keeps me fit and keeps me going the right direction!

During my 60 minute peloton ride yesterday Matt Wilpers - Peloton talked about how motivation is very important in training. But then he dropped this little gem: commitment is more important than motivation. Because some days we’re just not motivated to follow through with what we committed to to do. so if we deferred to motivation we’re going to bail on our commitment. I hadn’t really thought of it that way. I guess I never really thought of the two in context with each other. So today, when it was rainy, and I had committed to walking a 5K, I went ahead, and did it rain or shine. And it was so much fun with the clean fresh air and the clouds hanging over the mountains. If I would’ve stayed inside, I would’ve missed all of that.

Once again, that word consistency is critical. One.Hour.A.Day. We can want it, we can wish it, we can dabble at it. But unless we commit to consistency, it won’t happen.
“20 years…
On the left I was 28 years old with two little boys. On the right I’m 48 years old (current).
Never underestimate the power of consistency. I found almost 17 years ago and I absolutely believe it changed the course of my life.
The differences in my body are obvious. I’m feeling healthy and strong and ready to take on the next half century soon.
Even better than the physical changes, I can actually see the confidence I hold in my frame now. I feel capable, valuable, and sometimes even powerful.
One hour a day I take class. I focus on eating real food - meats, and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar (mostly). AND I JUST KEEP GOING.” –CrossFit Athlete Communications Manager Becky Harsh
