The world of Krav Maga is a little quieter today. I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Darren Levine .
Darren was always a huge inspiration to me. The times I was able to train under him still stand out in my mind as some of the most intense and epic training experiences of my career. Those moments left a mark that never faded.
He had a rare sincerity when he spoke to you. You could feel that he genuinely wanted what was best for you, for your students, and for your development in Krav Maga. At one point, he reached out to me personally to tell me he was impressed with what I was doing and encouraged me to keep going. That message meant more than he probably realized. It pushed me forward and helped solidify the direction I chose to take on my own Krav Maga journey.
About ten years ago, during my Nomad cross-country training trip, one of the highlights was when Darren graciously took the time to film an instructional video with me on defense against a long gun. That experience is something I will always carry with me.
Darren’s influence reaches far beyond any single gym or instructor. He was the first to usher Krav Maga into the United States, and through his teachings, thousands upon thousands of students worldwide have been shaped by his work. His legacy will live on for countless generations as Krav Maga continues to evolve.
One of my missions with Nomad Krav Maga is to continue evolving the system to be the best it can be. I know Darren might have done things differently, but I believe he would approve of the heart behind that mission. Growth, honesty, and preparing people for real life were always at the core of what he stood for.
May his memory be a blessing.
And God, please be with his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Steven passed away unexpectedly on November 27, 2025. He was a foundational part of Nomad Krav Maga from the very beginning, and his absence is felt deeply by every student, instructor, and team member whose life he touched.
For nearly a decade, Steven dedicated himself to helping people become safer, stronger, and more confident through Nomad Krav Maga. He believed in pushing himself, seeking discomfort, and lifting others up. Through his work with adults, youth, and especially our Little Warriors program, he shaped thousands of lives. His impact will continue through every person who trained alongside him.

Today, we share heartbreaking news with our Nomad Krav Maga family.
Our instructor and dear friend Steven Tang passed away unexpectedly yesterday while doing what he loved—pushing himself, challenging himself, and living with the relentless spirit he brought into everything. He completed a 10K race in New York City and passed shortly after. We do not yet have all the details, but we are devastated.
Steven has been with us since the very beginning, joining Nomad Krav Maga in our first months back in early 2016. From day one, he stood out. He was strong, disciplined, humble, always seeking discomfort, always training, always showing what it means to grow without excuses. Over nearly ten years, he became one of our most respected Lead Instructors, admired and loved by every student who had the privilege of learning from him.
Steven shaped every level of our community.
He poured his heart into leading the Little Warriors program, helping hundreds of kids step into their first taste of strength and confidence. He mentored our Youth students through some of the most defining years of their lives. He trained our adults to walk with confidence, be safer, and push themselves to become their best. There is no doubt he helped save lives through his instruction, his leadership, and the example he set.
For our Chief Instructor, Shannon “Shane” Langwell, Steven was not just a team member—he was one of the strongest pillars supporting the vision of Nomad Krav Maga from day one. His loss is felt deeply across our entire team, our entire membership, and every person who spent even a single class with him.
We will share more information as we receive it, including details about a memorial or event to honor Steven’s life and legacy.
For now, we ask for your patience and your compassion as our community processes this loss.
All classes for Saturday, 11/29, are canceled.
Classes will resume as normal on Monday.
Hold your loved ones close.
Treat every day like the gift it is.
Please say a prayer for his family and loved ones.
Rest in power, Steven. You made us all stronger.
