The h**p quality problem, and how we hold ourselves to a higher standard

H**p has never been more popular, and it has never been harder for shoppers to know what they are actually buying. Here is an honest look at the quality problem, and the standards we built Divine Earth around.

The problem: labels you can't always trust

Independent researchers have tested store-bought C*D products and found a wide gap between the label and the bottle. In a well-known 2017 study published in JAMA, only about 31% of the online products tested contained the amount of C*D their labels claimed. Some had much less, some had more, and some contained THC that was not listed at all.

Since then, more testing by journalists, labs and state regulators has kept finding the same pattern: weak products sold at strong prices.

What we've seen from the inside

"After nearly 10 years in the h**p industry, I've seen its dirty secrets," says founder [Jenna Zwagil](https://www.jennazwagil.com). "Crops infested with pests. Fields sprayed with pesticides. And h**p from those crops can still end up in bottles on store shelves."

H**p soaks up what's around it: the soil, the water and whatever is sprayed on it. When a crop is infested or treated with pesticides, those problems can follow the plant all the way into the extract. That is exactly what Divine Earth was built to avoid.

H**p is a natural bioaccumulator

H**p is remarkably good at pulling things out of the ground. Scientists call this bioaccumulation, and it is why h**p has been studied for phytoremediation: using plants to clean polluted soil.

* Chernobyl. In the late 1990s, researchers planted industrial h**p near the Chernobyl nuclear site in Ukraine to study how well it could draw contaminants out of the soil.
* Southern Italy. Farmers near a large steel plant in Taranto planted h**p on land contaminated with industrial pollution, as a way to help pull heavy metals from the ground.

That is amazing for cleaning up land. It is also exactly why the soil h**p grows in matters so much. A plant that absorbs heavy metals and other contaminants that well can carry them straight into an extract.

Why we grow in air

This is a big reason we focus on aeroponic growing. With no soil, the roots hang in the air and are fed a measured nutrient mist, so growers decide exactly what the plant takes in. Pair that with a lab report for every batch, and you have a much cleaner starting point.

Why it keeps happening

* Loose rules. H**p products are not held to one consistent national quality standard, so practices vary widely from brand to brand.
* Missing or outdated lab reports. Some brands share one old report for every batch, or none at all.
* Low-potency bottles. Many tinctures contain only a few hundred milligrams of cannabinoids per bottle, even at premium prices.
* Harsh processing. High heat and harsh solvents can strip away the plant's naturally occurring compounds.
* Unknown growing conditions. H**p absorbs what is in its soil and water, so where and how it is grown matters.

How Divine Earth answers it

* A lab report for every batch. Every batch is tested by an independent third-party lab, and you can look up your bottle's report by batch number or QR code.
* 2,500 mg active cannabinoids per bottle. We set our potency high on purpose, so you get real value in every 30 mL bottle.
* Broad-spectrum with 0.0% THC. Our formulas keep a range of naturally occurring h**p compounds, without THC.
* Gentle, low-temperature extraction. Our cold extraction process protects the plant instead of cooking it.
* Clean, sustainable growing. Aeroponic grow rooms give growers control over what reaches the roots, make it easier to keep pests out without heavy spraying, and recycle the water the plants release.

How to shop smart, wherever you buy

1. Ask for a current, batch-specific lab report from an independent lab.
2. Check that the cannabinoid amount on the report matches the label.
3. Look at milligrams per bottle, not just the price.
4. Confirm the THC level, especially if you need a 0.0% THC product.
5. The h**p quality problem, and how we hold ourselves to a higher standard

Beyond C*D: Why Minor Cannabinoids Are Getting Attention

Divine earth Journal H**p News
7 minute read

C*D opened the conversation. Minor cannabinoids are widening it.

C*D introduced many people to the idea that h**p contains more than one noteworthy compound. Now, names such as CBG, CBN, CBC, THCV, and C*DV are appearing on product labels and in research headlines.

These are often called minor cannabinoids because they generally occur in smaller amounts than the plant’s dominant cannabinoids—not because scientists have established that they are less important.

Their growing visibility reflects better analytical tools, more targeted cultivation, and interest in how different plant compounds interact with biological systems. It also reflects marketing that sometimes moves faster than the evidence.

For h**p-curious readers, the useful question is not which cannabinoid sounds most impressive. It is what researchers actually know, what remains uncertain, and how to assess a product without mistaking possibility for proof.

What makes a cannabinoid “minor”?

Cannabinoids are a family of compounds associated with the cannabis plant. Their relative abundance varies with genetics, growing conditions, harvest timing, processing, and storage.

“Minor” is therefore a practical description, not a fixed scientific ranking. A compound found only in trace amounts in one plant may be more abundant in a cultivar selected to produce it.

H**p also produces many cannabinoids initially in acidic forms. Heat can change these into their corresponding neutral forms through a process called decarboxylation. For example, C*DA can become C*D, while CBGA can become CBG.

A review in Frontiers in Pharmacology, “Minor Cannabinoids: Biosynthesis, Molecular Pharmacology and Potential Therapeutic Uses,” describes the diversity of these compounds and the many biological targets researchers are investigating.

The important distinction: identifying a compound or observing activity in a laboratory does not establish a meaningful benefit in people.

Five cannabinoids receiving attention
# # # CBG: a connection to the plant’s chemistry Cannabigerol, or CBG, is frequently discussed because of its relationship to CBGA, an important precursor in cannabinoid biosynthesis.

Plant enzymes can convert CBGA into acidic cannabinoids such as C*DA, THCA, and CBCA. This is why CBG sometimes gets called a “parent cannabinoid,” although CBGA is the more precise reference.

Researchers are studying CBG’s interactions with several biological targets. Human evidence is still limited. A placebo-controlled crossover study published in Scientific Reports in 2024 investigated CBG in healthy adults, illustrating that research is beginning to move beyond laboratory models.

That step matters, but one small study cannot establish broad benefits, long-term safety, or equivalence among commercial products.

# # # CBN: familiar marketing, incomplete evidence

Cannabinol, or CBN, can form as THC undergoes chemical changes associated with aging and oxidation. It is not simply another name for C*D, and its presence does not automatically indicate a particular product experience.

CBN is often marketed in evening-oriented products. That positioning deserves more scrutiny than a label alone can provide.

The review “Cannabinol and Sleep: Separating Fact from Fiction,” published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research in 2021, highlighted the limited evidence available at that time. Subsequent human research has expanded the discussion, but important questions remain about dose, formulation, and reproducibility.

A product’s intended place in a routine should not be confused with an established outcome.

# # # CBC: interesting biology, little human confirmation

Cannabichromene, or CBC, has attracted attention because laboratory research suggests interactions with targets beyond the best-known cannabinoid receptors.
That makes CBC scientifically interesting. It does not make it clinically established.

Much of the evidence remains preclinical, meaning it comes from experiments involving cells, isolated biological systems, or animals. These studies help researchers develop questions and identify mechanisms worth exploring.

They cannot tell a shopper what a CBC-containing gummy or oil will reliably do. For CBC, the distance between promising biology and practical consumer guidance remains substantial.

# # # THCV: NOT interchangeable with THC

Tetrahydrocannabivarin, or THCV, has a name resembling THC’s, but small structural differences can change how a cannabinoid behaves.

Researchers are studying THCV’s dose-dependent pharmacology, including its interactions with cannabinoid receptors. Its activity cannot be summarized accurately by assuming it acts like THC—or by declaring it the opposite.

Popular appetite- and weight-related marketing often compresses complicated research into an appealing slogan. That is not a sound basis for choosing a wellness product.

Human studies exist, but the evidence does not justify turning THCV into a universal promise about appetite, metabolism, or body composition.

# # # C*DV: a close relative with separate questions

Cannabidivarin, or C*DV, is structurally related to C*D. Nevertheless, evidence about C*D cannot simply be transferred to C*DV.

Researchers are studying C*DV in laboratory and human research settings, including investigations of nervous-system biology. Those programs involve specific formulations, doses, populations, and measurements.

A retail product containing a small amount of C*DV is not automatically comparable to a research formulation. The same principle applies across this entire category: related chemistry does not establish identical effects.

Why interest is growing now:

Several developments have made minor cannabinoids more visible.
Targeted breeding can produce plants with different cannabinoid profiles. Extraction and purification techniques can help manufacturers separate and concentrate particular compounds. Laboratory testing can identify and quantify cannabinoids that might previously have received little attention.

Commercial incentives matter, too. A less familiar ingredient gives companies a new product story.

That does not make the science unimportant. It makes separating scientific progress from promotional language especially important.

Naturally occurring also does not necessarily mean directly extracted from h**p. Some commercial cannabinoid ingredients may be produced through chemical conversion. Asking how an ingredient was made can therefore be as useful as asking what it is called.

How to read the evidence without the hype

# # # Start with the type of study

A cell experiment can show that a compound interacts with a receptor. An animal study can explore a biological response. A controlled human trial can investigate a defined question in a particular group.

These are different kinds of evidence, not interchangeable endorsements.

Even human research needs context:

* Was there a placebo or comparison group?
* How many participants were included?
* Was the cannabinoid studied alone or alongside other ingredients?
* Does the research dose resemble the product’s serving?
* Have independent researchers reproduced the finding?

A statistically significant result also does not automatically mean a noticeable or useful difference in everyday life.

# # # Keep safety in the picture

Less-studied does not mean gentler, safer, or more suitable for daily use.
The FDA has emphasized that C*D can involve safety concerns, including drug interactions, and that important knowledge gaps remain.

Those findings should not be assigned wholesale to every minor cannabinoid, but they demonstrate why h**p-derived ingredients deserve careful evaluation.

For many minor cannabinoids, reliable information about repeated exposure, interactions, and use in different populations is limited.

Anyone taking medication, pregnant or breastfeeding, or considering cannabinoids for a child should seek qualified professional guidance rather than rely on product marketing.

What thoughtful product selection looks like:

Start with a batch-specific certificate of analysis from an independent laboratory. Match its batch number to the product and check whether the report actually measures the cannabinoids advertised.

Look for clearly stated amounts per serving, THC results, and relevant contaminant testing. A certificate is useful evidence about the tested sample—not proof of a health benefit.

Extract terminology also needs context. Full-spectrum products generally retain multiple plant compounds, including some THC.

Broad-spectrum products contain multiple compounds with THC removed to the manufacturer’s specification. Isolates center on a purified individual cannabinoid.

Divine Earth’s products are broad-spectrum, with 0.0% THC. That describes the formulation; it does not establish which minor cannabinoids are present or in what amounts. Product-specific testing should answer those questions.

As of 2026, cannabinoid rules remain jurisdiction-dependent and subject to change. Check current state law, particularly for unfamiliar or chemically converted cannabinoids, rather than assuming every h**p-derived ingredient is permitted.

The takeaway

Minor cannabinoids are expanding the scientific conversation around h**p, but attention is not the same as confirmation.

The strongest approach is straightforward: distinguish early research from established evidence, question sweeping promises, and prioritize transparent ingredients and batch-specific testing.

Curiosity is welcome. Certainty should wait for the evidence.
