Wounded Warriors back in action! I was at a great event last week at Pendleton. Long range shooting matches hosted by the Santa Margarita Gun Club - 600 yds Sat and 1000(!) Sunday. Between the SMGC and us (Accu-grip) we covered match fees, ammo and the use of some awesome rifles for the Wounded Warriors AND worked in some active duty Marines as well.
Every one of those Marines conducted themselves as a class act - it was a pleasure shooting with them.

On Saturday, September 10, five Marines and support personnel from Camp Pendleton's Wounded Warriors Battalion participated in a 600 yard, Mid-Range Shooting Match at the Wilcox Range Complex (R103) aboard Base. The Match, conducted by the Santa Margarita Gun Club Inc. (SMGC), was arranged so that the Wounded Warrior participants would shoot with, and be coached by, nationally recognized Mid and Long Range Competitors. Rifles and ammunition were provided by SMGC to the Wounded Warriors. In addition, SMGC hosted several Active Duty Marines at their first Mid-Range Match ever, with rifles and ammo provided by Accu-Grip.net.
On Sunday, a Long Range Match (1000 yards) was held at Range 117 with one of the Wounded Warriors from the previous day joining us for that event. He was shooting 308 Wi******er and 284 Wi******er rifles at 1000 yards, no easy feat! This event required the same discipline and control as the Air-Rifle events they typically participate in, with the the added complexity of the particularly vexing wind calls at 1000 yards; sometimes as much as 50” left or right of the Target to allow for the wind, with the Bull’s Eye being a 5” circle!

As Marines, the ability to participate in a Precision Rifle Match was particularly rewarding for them as it allowed them to feel the recoil, hear the report, and smell the powder burning again. The group included: Coach Phil Bryant, Mike Rios, Jenae Piper, John Flores and Ron Gomez (Battalon Physical Therapist). The Wounded Warrior squad was composed of the Wounded Warrior Regiment, Battalion West Camp Pendleton’s, Air Rifle and Pistol Team members and coaches.

Accu-Grip sponsored ammo for Marines at the Santa Margarita Gun Club Long Range Match last weekend. We had Marines join the shoot on Saturday at the 1000 yard line. they were able to shoot a couple of different 308s, a 6mmBR and 284. Winds were the usual shifty changing conditions found on Range 117. Inspite of the wind conditions they all shot well for their first 1000 yard F-Class match.

Accu-Grip sponsored ammo for four Marines who joined us for shooting on Camp Pendleton last weekend for a 3X600 Mid-Range Match. A couple of good friends also made ammunition for their guns for two additional Marines. Conditions were very tough with gusty winds most of the day. Thanks to the Marines from the 1st MLG for their service and for coming out and joining us. For those of you who find pit duty to be boring bring some of these guys along for entertainment.

I had the opportunity to RSO for the 2016 U.S. Police and Fire Games held at Camp Pendleton this past weekend. We had some very strange and challenging conditions for June in Southern California. The day started off very warm with no wind, and then changed to 4-6 mph wind from 11:00 with variation of ±15 degrees and building clouds and humidity, at the end is was 8-16 mph gusty from 3:00. I felt bad for the guys shooting the rapid fire strings with how fast conditions were shifting. Quite a change of conditions in 7 days. https://www.facebook.com/The-Santa-Margarita-Gun-Club-319480901477728/

Last weekend we shot at the Santa Margarita Gun Club 1000 yard match and sponsored 308 ammunition for 4 Marines who joined us. I also got a great video of two guys shooting magnums blasting each other with dust from their muzzle brakes

I was able to shoot last weekend in the AZ State Mid-Range Championship in blustery conditions. The match was cut short after a torrential rain started in the middle of the 3rd string of fire. Our team, Santa Margarita Gun Club finished first in the F-Open Class team event .
