At the request of Duke’s father, Patrick Roufus, Roufusport is honored to share the eulogy he wrote for Duke’s Celebration of Life - a deeply personal and heartfelt tribute:
“This is surreal to even say: another of the lions has passed. Thank you, everyone, for being here today. I’m Patrick Roufus - Duke’s dad.
With a profound sense of deep humility and deep reverence, I stand here before you to honor the life of a legend, our son, Duke Roufus.
When Duke Roufus died, a piece of me died. As I look around this room and across the globe, I see that a piece of you also died - or else you wouldn’t be here.
At birth, my wife, Shiela, and I gave our son, Jeffrey Ryan Roufus, his nickname, Duke, as a term of endearment - a nickname that blessed Duke his whole life.
How does a memory last forever? How does a story never die? I want you to know that in the evening of my memory, I see scattered, misty, watercolored, magnificent memories of Duke’s magnificent laughter and magnificent triumphs that light the corners of my mind.
Duke inspired millions with his relentless, lion-like hunger to be the best. Duke’s success was rooted in his intellectual mastery of the Art of Fighting. An intriguing, genius fight IQ I call “Duke Mentality.” This intellectual approach was more than just innate talent - it was a disciplined and obsessive practice of observation, preparation, and mental resilience that allowed Duke to successfully strategize, teach, coach, train, fight, dissect, dominate opponents, and win.
Duke’s short life was filled with a decorated kickboxing career, MMA achievements, and accolades most coaches and fighters could only dream of. It was the fulfillment of all Duke’s boyish hopes and dreams.
Duke leaves behind a legacy of legendary fighting greatness, a strong, evolving future world-champions instructional and training system, and his “Might for Right” philosophy echoing and re-echoing - find your greatness, impossible is nothing, you got this - inside the walls of Roufusport, widely regarded as one of the best MMA and kickboxing gyms in the world.
Duke was full of joy. His smile was contagious. Duke touched many, many lives. I could spend hours telling you Duke Roufus stories from across the globe, filled with magical memories by which people were simply awestruck by the wonderment of Duke Roufus. But you already know. You have your own stories and reasons why Duke Roufus is so special to you.
Duke was a legendary fighter. A legendary coach. A mentor. A devoted father. A beloved brother. Our son…
Oftentimes, Duke would text me: “Dad, I’m the luckiest human on earth. I do what I love. I love what I do. Thank you, Dad!” I would text back: “You’re very welcome, Duke. With humble gratitude - Love, Dad.” Duke always texted me back: “Love you, Dad - Duke.” A treasured memory.
Duke’s legacy is not just in the records he set or the fights he won, but in his lasting imprint on the millions worldwide that he touched and inspired to change their lives for the better - the mark of a truly great man.
As we say our goodbyes, I want you to know I’m deeply grateful that Duke’s spirit, love, and laughter will live on in all of us. And I think to myself: REST IN PEACE, CHAMP!
Thank you all for coming today. My grateful appreciation to you all."

❌ Fight Off
After agreeing to step in on 4 days’ notice, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has ruled Donte medically suspended from competing due to fighting last weekend.
He said yes.
He was ready.
But the commission said no.
