BEFORE STETSON WRIGHT WAS “SUPERMAN,” HE WAS FINISHING CONCRETE.
The Wright family has always been about more than rodeo. Back home around Milford, Utah, the family has ranched, raised horses and cattle, and worked in the concrete business — the kind of hard work that helped shape generations of Wright cowboys.
And before Stetson Wright became a 10-time World Champion, he was just another young Wright working alongside his family.
Stetson was also the kid willing to break slightly from the family tradition. The Wrights were famous for saddle bronc riding, but Stetson wanted to ride bulls, too.
Then came a moment that showed his family he might be pretty good at it.
After teenage Stetson came home with a $20,000 bull riding check, his grandmother, Evelyn Wright, reportedly delivered the perfect family reaction:
“He just won a $20,000 check bull riding. We’ll NEVER get another honest day’s work from him finishing concrete again.”
Grandma may have had a point.
Stetson eventually became a champion in both saddle bronc riding and bull riding, while also building one of the most decorated All-Around careers in modern rodeo.
But before the gold buckles, the big checks and the nickname “Superman,” there was a teenage cowboy from Milford who knew what it meant to put in an honest day's work.
