Registration for the Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championship 2024 opens this Friday, May 17, 2024.

After a year’s hiatus, Red Oktober is back! Thank you all for your patience, especially with the issues we faced with our venue last year. To prevent such occurrences in the future, we have ensured a guaranteed venue for this year and beyond. Pro Gun Club, which has graciously hosted us over the past few years, will continue to dedicate space and time as well as help with venue improvements to better accommodate future ROKC events.

In addition to registration details, we want to highlight how ROKC is evolving. After careful consideration during the hiatus, we have decided to focus on truly challenging the participants. ROKC has always aimed to identify the best performers of Kalashnikov pattern fi****ms, and our stage design will reflect this ambition. We have grappled with the division between professional, intermediate, and beginner shooters, but the way forward is clear: we need to challenge everyone to reach their greatest potential. This transition might be challenging for some, but it will benefit our community in the long term. Moreover, we have not forgotten our intermediate and beginner participants; starting next year, ROKC will shift to a point series. This series will feature multiple matches throughout the year and additional support structures to help participants develop their skills and prepare for the main event—the Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championship. More information on the point series will be provided throughout the remainder of the year.

Other notable updates include the introduction of a free membership program and a new class system. Classifier stages will be available at Pro Gun Club’s Wolverine Wednesdays and Soviet Sunday events starting this month and continuing indefinitely. A separate post will soon be made to explain the classification system and the benefits it offers.

While we are still upset at the cancellation of this year's Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championships we will be setting up a micro match on the same dates (October 7-8, 2023) at Pro Gun Club Vegas. This micro match, dubbed Red Oktober Kurz, will be a bare-bones shooting event only featuring 3 match stages. By focusing only on these 3 stages expect a high round count, 60 plus per stage with one stage being 100 rounds.

This is a very hard and sad message to write.

The 2023 Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championship is canceled. All match fees are in the process of being refunded. I want to state that upfront so that you all can cancel flights, accommodations, rental cars. If you are a sponsor, we will be reaching out to you shortly.

Why?

I learned two days ago that the property on which we’d planned ROKC 2023 is up for public auction prior to the match. This is despite assurances for months from the entity we *thought* had control over the property that everything was “good to go” - I believe they have been misleading us for months as to their actual rights to the property, and I primarily blame them for this situation.

I reached out to the Southern Utah Practical Shooters to arrange a change of venue. While they were willing to host us, the restrictions we would be under to produce the match would not allow Tyler and I to create a Red Oktober worthy of your time, travel and expense. This close to the event, we believe any greater change in location (to Vegas, Arizona etc) would not be ethical as it would require rebooking accommodations for everyone. This is not an easy decision, but we believe it is the most fair thing we can do for you, the shooters.

I am especially sad to announce this, as I was excited to see a return to form for Red Oktober with big natural-terrain stages, heavy on the neat props and incorporating longer ranges. We are currently working to secure an appropriate home for Red Oktober next year, and will announce it as soon as we have one.

We are also working on a smaller “consolation” event this October at a new venue with details to follow.

Vendors/Sponsors: If you have sent any product/payment we will be reaching out to process return shipping. Once we have a supplementary event established we will offer sponsorship options for that. We will handle the cost of return shipping as to not further inconvenience you.

Get your ass to Mars St. George! Rifle Dynamics Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championships returns to the flowing red sands of Southern Utah in 2023. Brian Nelson (Match Director) and Tyler Martin (Co-Match Director) have some great ideas to really test the playing field, especially at our new playground, the Cobalt Kinetics Range. This range has hosted leagues such as Practical Competition Shooting League (PCSL) and offers large bays, a shoot house, and long-range shooting all set to the natural terrain that offers Utah offers.

Returning from 2022 is the After Dark side match. Though high winds were an issue last year the turnout for After Dark was amazing. Having to compete with your AK at night with either white light or night vision equipment adds a new dimension to ROKC that we can’t wait to expand on and grow.
