Good Morning South Bay! Just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who came out to show and support the 8th Rod and Kustom BBQ! I have to admit that I was really nervous about trying to pull off the show on something like 6 weeks notice. There were a lot of high quality events in the area on Saturday, but because of the faithful support of all of you, it was, in my opinion, one of the best yet! We were able to raise a very nice donation for Destiny Rescue and get the word out on the work they are doing to end human trafficking and s*x slavery.

I want to take a minute to thank a number of people for their direct contributions to the effort. First and foremost my Dad Amado Maciel who is there from start to finish every year. Thanks Lance James at Speed & Chrome Illustrated for the flyers, and to Conrad Craft at Insite Grafix in Hawthorne for the banner. Thanks to Martha Carpio for the generous donation of the Grand Prize for the raffle and her support at the hospitality tent. Thanks to Gus and Julia Perez for the pastries and man power at the tent. Thanks to Mario and the guys from South Bay Locals Car Club for showing up in numbers but also for running the show parking and taking one more thing off my plate. And of course thanks to my wife for 8 years of support in doing what we do, and lending vision to help us grow this into one of the premiere events in the South Bay. We're already planning for 2022, so until next year, thanks again South Bay!!!

This year we're doing things a little differently. No registration required. Just cruise-in and have a good time. Live music from 12-4, food trucks and a huge playground for the kids. 50/50 and raffle proceeds benefit Destiny Rescue. Donations on site are greatly appreciated.

Hey Friends. In the 8 years we've done this car show, I've never made an ask ahead of time. In all truth the ONLY reason I do this is to raise money for DestinyRescue.org which is on the front lines, rescuing children from human trafficking and s*x slavery. I usually start the process of organizing the even in February, but I got the call in May which didn't leave me the kind of time I usually need to do all the things I need to do to pull it off. That said...
I found out that even though we hadn't announced or advertised the show, there was going to be one anyway! A big group of our regulars saw the flyer for the festival and assumed that the show would be going on and they were all planning on being there. If they assumed that, I figure there were more, and I can't leave them or Destiny Rescue hanging.

I called the city and got the OK to put on a cruise-in event. A lot more low key than we usually do, but still an opportunity for everyone to get out and have a good time. But I'm behind the ball.

Now for the ask...
If you can find it in your heart to help with the 8th Rod and Kustom BBQ (cruise-in), here is what we need:

$140 to cover the cost of flyers and whatever it costs to get a giant banner on the fence at Jane Addams Park to get tires on the grass on Sept 11. I accept paypal, venmo and zelle. I'll take anything and everything, and anything over will go straight to Destiny Rescue.

Raffle donations.
Gift cards or merchandise or services. Wanna donate a new big screen TV or iPad or laptop or a tool box or whatever? I'll take it!
Gas, grocery, home depot, target gift cards are great!
Maybe you own or run a business and can offer a gift certificate.

If you can put some flyers on your counter or in the lunchroom or your pegboard at work, please grab some when they get here. If you're going to shows, and are willing to hand out flyers, let me know and I'll grab some. I only ordered 1000, but I'll order more.

Like I said, we're doing ALL of this so that somewhere a child who has endured a life or unspeakable physical, mental and s*xual abuse, can live a life of freedom and restoration. Your donation and effort can help to make that possible.

Well friends, we made a game day decision, and it looks like we are back for year number eight! Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Jane Addams park in Lawndale, California. 12 PM to 4 PM. Live music, food trucks. Parking on the grass. And a playground for the kids. Cruise in and help us support DestinyRescue.org.

Well, another year is in the bag! Huge thanks to the City of Lawndale for providing the venue! The weather was HOT and so was the entertainment! Big thanks to all the bands that helped to make it such and enjoyable day. We were fortunate to have Atomic Cafe Coffee, Doty's Tacos and B&R Burger on site as well and boy was i glad! Thanks to all of our volunteers for braving the heat and the sunburns and to everyone who participated. Thanks to everyone who donated to the raffle, and congrats to all our winners. All in all, Destiny Rescue is going to walk away from the event with $1700 in funds raised.

Photos: What does Lawndale do when it has the blues? Invite the whole community! The 7th Annual Lawndale Blues Festival saw close to 1,500 people roll into Jane Addams Park to enjoy five different blues bands and a classic car show.

We're back for #7! Saturday Sept 14 at Jane Addams Park in Lawndale, CA from 11-4. Not Entry fee. No admission fee. Bring the family! Bring lawn chairs and enjoy a full afternoon of live blues music. The kids can play in the playground while you enjoy lunch from one of our food truck vendors.

Did you know that your donations help to save kids? 100% of all proceeds from our raffles go to Destiny Rescue, saving kids from the horrors of human trafficking and s*x slavery. We don't charge anything for the show and we're counting on your generosity at the raffle table. Destiny Rescue will be on site to share all about their mission and the tremendous work they are doing to rescue kids.

Just a quick note to say THANKS to everyone who supported our efforts on Saturday. We had 65 of the finest cars the Southland had to offer. We gave away 2 43" LG flat screen TVs , a ton of raffle prizes and a $250 50/50. Thanks to all of you we will be sending a donation to Destiny Rescue in excess of $2500!!!
