True Grit BJJ

What a day! Awesome work UFC BJJ and Claudia for having a great event. It was a very cool meeting and talking with Claudia and Shaolin. Now to brag on my athletes. Noah fought very hard in his bracket that was fairly deep and very talented. He missed bronze by the skin of his teeth, literally a quarter of an inch. Now about Nova, she went up in weight and into a higher age group. At 16 she fought people in their 20s. She fought a hard busted knuckle, bloody lip, and a silver medal for her efforts! Not the end result but still awesome! As a Coach of course I'm critical of this , that, or the other, but I always will remain my athletes bestest fan. All of them. Every tournament. Every time.

Fuji Worlds.. Wow FUJI BJJ for putting on a solid event. So many pics these are just a few. First and foremost thank you to my wife and daughter for being supportive of my dream. Second, thank you to other coaches for stepping up and ensuring our competitors had someone in the chair. We could not have done this without you. I got to meet Cholo MMA ran into Doc and crew. Thank you to the I suck at jiujitsu show for the interviews on both days. And now our competitors, I am so proud of all of you. Win or lose we conducted ourselves in a professional way and sportsman like. A lot of first timers and all of you did awesome. This is a tough sport, it's harder than basketball, football, soccer etc. And often when we compete even though we have coaches, a cheering section etc we feel alone. So to watch boys and girls walk onto a mat and put it all on the line in itself is an amazing task. Special shout outs to Charlotte and Glynnda. Both won their division and brought home gold. At the end of the day all I can say is I'm proud, honored, and thankful to be represented by such a great group of not BJJ players but just good people. -Coach Del out...

One of the coolest moments for me as a coach happened this past weekend. When a parent you haven't seen in several years tells you that you are still the all time favorite coach. Like, stuff like that makes you feel awesome. It didn't have to be said, it wasn't fished out, nor rehearsed, just in casual conversation. That's when you come back to the basis of being a coach. It's not the money (there isn't a lot in coaching lol), it isn't the BJJ, it isn't the kicks or punches, it isn't really in the win/loss column. It's the personal development journey that the student is on. I'm honored to be a part of that for so many past, present, and future.
