Nice turn-out tonight for the 2026 Kansas Track Cycling Season Finale as well as the final race in the six-race 2026 Coach Pat's Tuesday Night Omnium Training Race Series out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome. Tonight's Omnium race was the Elimination Race, after the neutral lap the last rider across the line each (and every) lap is eliminated until there are two riders left who sprint it out for the win. It is BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything) so bring everything you will need to enjoy a day of track cycling in a pasture in NE Kansas in late July (sunscreen, bug spray, shade, chair, fluids, snacks, ice socks, ice vests, etc., etc.).

Great turn-out tonight out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome for the fifth out of six races in the 2026 Coach Pat's Tuesday Night Omnium Training Race Series -- the 6-Lap Individual Pursuit (IP). After Bill Anderson conducted the Track Certification Clinic for one first-timer, Coach Pat paired up riders who started on opposite sides of the 333.3 Meter track to race over six laps against the clock (and each other) from a held start. While the Track Record (TR) of 3 min 15.57 sec was safe, many Personal Bests (PB) were set! After the Omnium IP, the grass trackies line up for the (non-omnium) 2nd Annual KS Krawl! -- 0.5 laps of the track with the last rider across the line for the win! After the Points Race, the grass trackies lined up for the (non-omnium) "Pinball." One of Coach Pat's many original concoctions. After the neutral lap, the first rider across the line each (and every) lap scores "some points." The kicker is that nobody knows how many points are on offer each lap until after the race. The number of points awarded each lap are determined by the roll of a single die during the neutral lap and are kept secret until after the race. In tonight's "Pinball" the number of points on offer were 1, 3, 2, 6, 6, 2, 5, 3, 6, & 1 point, respectively. Here is the result of tonight's "Pinball" --

It's big shout-out time for all those people who make the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome happen. First and foremost, land-owner Steve Schwada(!) for letting us play bikes in his "back yard." Bill Anderson, it was his crazy idea to go the grass-velodrome route in the first place (plus he supplies the port-a-potty, conducts the Track Certification Clinics, and houses the loner-bike fleet). Matt Gilhousen of Sunflower Outdoor and Bikes (go buy a bike from them) and the Steve Tilford Foundation (always wear your helmet) for the mow! (Nine weeks mowing a pasture into a "World Famous" sporting venue in the Kansas summer heat/humidity!) Jared Gab for spreading the word among the gravel-heads as well as having five(!) grass-track bikes available for use which he lugs out to the 'drome each Tuesday. And of course, all of you who come out, participate, and have fun! Without all of you, I'm just some bozo standing in a pasture by myself talking about track cycling. See you all next Tuesday!

Despite the local Heat Advisory, a nice turn-out tonight out at the "World Famous" Lawrence Grass Velodrome for the third out of six races that make up the 2026 Coach Pat's Tuesday Night Omnium Training Race Series -- the "500 M." After Bill Anderson conducted the Track Certification Clinic for one first-timer and Coach Pat conducted the Held Start Clinic, the racers lined up one at a time for 1.5 laps of the 333.3 M track against the clock from a held start. (New name (I'm wanting to go bigger! (The medals I ordered are waaay too good for just a "state" championship. Besides, we are the only velodrome in the Great Plains so . . . )), but basically the same bit.) Remember, we are dumping USA Cycling this year for our "Championship Sunday" (on a trial basis), so we will not be asking you your chromosome make-up nor your date-of-birth. After one first-timer got track certified by Coach Pat, the racers lined up for one lap of the 333.3-meter track against the stopwatch. The track healed up well from last week's storms (only needing a little grooming by Coach Pat tonight) so was firm and fast!
