DIYs are one of the many things we love about skateboarding. We REPURPOSE! An empty lot to you is the next concrete playground for us! Abandoned foundations are hard to come by especially in rural Oklahoma, but we keep our eyes peeled.

Skatepark one of the features planned for Lawton's Elmer Thomas Park upgrade LAWTON, OK — A proposed addition to Elmer Thomas Park that is drawing the most interest probably is a skatepark.

We attended another Elmer Thomas Park Master Plan meeting this evening. This time the consultants presented a draft of what our city park could look like. To our surprise, plans for a NEW SKATEPARK has been included in the overall design. While it’s still subject to change *knock on wood* we consider this a small victory to even be acknowledged and included!

The wheels won’t stop turning here though! We will continue to push so that these plans aren’t scrapped to save money once construction on Elmer Thomas Park begins. Our next steps are to get together and come up with ways to raise money and seek out grants so we can make our dream a reality!

If other cities are embracing their skate communities, why can’t Lawton, OK do the same? 👀👀👀

Skateboarders, roller skaters, Bmx(ers), even families who bring their kids out to enjoy our current skatepark. We ask for you to join us in our participation of this input meeting. Many of you know, while others may not, that our skatepark has been around for over 20 years and it’s showing it’s age.

In 2001, we received a park that was put together in a warehouse and dropped off via flatbeds. Since then, the coping on the nearly all of the quarter pipes have come off leaving sharp edges, structural welds have busted causing gaping between the foundation and metal surfaces in some areas and (in high temperatures) these metal ramps become so hot you’re likely to be burned!

Our goal is to push and eventually obtain a new, modern skatepark that is made of concrete and not metal. A new skatepark will be a breath of fresh air for our more seasoned riders and also welcoming for those wishing to get into alternative activities such as skateboarding, roller skating and even bmx(ing).

We hope to see many of you there! Help us achieve our goal!
