Champions don't just chase wins.

They chase becoming the kind of athlete who earns them.

Every competition presents two types of challenges:

The things you can control...
and the things you can't.

The athletes who perform their best don't waste energy on distractions - they invest it where it makes the biggest difference.

When your focus starts to drift, ask yourself:

"Is this something I can control?"

If the answer is no, let it go.

If the answer is yes, give it your full attention.

Confidence isn't only built in your mind - it shows up in your body.

After a mistake, it's easy to drop your head, slump your shoulders, or let frustration take over. But those physical cues can make it harder to reset and refocus.

The next time something doesn't go your way, try this:

Stand tall.
Lift your eyes.
Take one deep breath.
Walk with purpose into the next play.

You don't have to feel confident before you look confident.

Sometimes, the way you carry yourself helps your mind catch up.

Great performances rarely happen by accident.

One of the habits that separates consistent athletes from inconsistent ones is having a pre-skill routine.

A routine isn't about superstition. It's about preparing your mind and body to perform.

Before your next practice or game, try creating a simple routine to use right before you begin a skill:

One deep breath
One cue word or affirmation
One visualization of success
One clear intention for how you'll compete

The more consistent your preparation, the more consistent your performance.

One of the most effective mental performance tools doesn't require equipment, technology, or extra practice time.

It requires your breath.

When pressure builds, your breathing is one of the fastest ways to influence your body's stress response and regain control of your focus.

Before your next competition, try this simple deliberate breathing routine:

Inhale for 4 seconds
Hold for 2 seconds
Exhale for 6 seconds
Repeat 3–5 breaths

The goal isn't to eliminate nerves.

It's to help your body and mind work together so you can perform at your best.

Breathe with intention. Compete with confidence.

Confidence isn't something you find - it's something you BUILD.

The athletes with the most confidence aren't fearless. They've simply accumulated enough evidence that they can handle challenges, recover from mistakes, and keep improving.

Today, don't wait for confidence to show up.

Create it.

Did you know? Your brain performs best when it has a clear job to do.

Instead of fighting negative thoughts, give your mind a productive place to go.

Whether it's "Next play," "See the target," or "Strong finish," a simple cue word or phrase can help redirect your attention to what matters most.

The goal isn't to think less - it's to think more EFFECTIVELY.

Challenge: Before your next practice or competition, choose one cue word or phrase you'll use to keep your focus where it belongs.

The best athletes aren't mistake-free.
They're recovery experts.

Mistakes are inevitable.

What separates high performers isn't whether they make mistakes, it's how quickly they recover from them.

The athletes who perform their best under pressure have learned a valuable skill: letting go of what just happened so they can focus on what happens next.

This week, create a simple reset routine:
✅ Take a breath
✅ Use a physical cue (brush your hands together, tighten your ponytail, tap your leg, pull your shoulders back)
✅ Use a cue word ("Next," "Reset," "Here")
✅ Refocus on the next opportunity

Because the next play deserves your full attention.

Goals are important.

But the most powerful question isn't, "What do I want to achieve?"

It's: "Who do I want to become?"

Because championships, scholarships, and accomplishments are outcomes.

Confidence, resilience, leadership, and discipline are identities.

And identities drive behavior.

Think beyond your goals and focus on becoming the athlete - and PERSON - you want to be.
