Heather Taddonio is a Certified Horsemanship Association riding instructor and a licensed middle school teacher. She is trained in Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) through Natural Lifemanship and PATH, and is certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Red Cross.

She specializes in facilitating youth EAL sessions as well as giving riding lessons to children and teen riders through an EAL lens. Heather’s approach emphasizes safety around the horses, practicing life skills, horsemanship, and riding from a horse-centered, relational approach that emphasizes communication and partnership between horse and human (think— our horses are our friends and partners, not just a tool for the sport!).

Her riding and horsemanship program follows a progressive, levels-based curriculum, allowing students to develop skills at their own pace while earning ribbons to celebrate their achievements and milestones.

Heather will soon be partnering with a licensed mental health therapist to offer equine-assisted psychotherapy, expanding opportunities for clients to experience the benefits of working with horses in a supportive, professional environment.

Your horse-crazy child is invited to join us at Davis Ranch Leicester for Pony Scouts, a 6-week horsemanship program for homeschoolers! Pony Scouts is designed to provide horse-based academic enrichment while fostering a love of horses, building confidence, and developing a sense of responsibility and compassion for animals. This is a dropoff program.

Each week will include riding and/or vaulting lessons led by qualified instructors, structured hands-on horsemanship learning, academic enrichment through horse activities, social time, and a lunch break. Activities and learning will include:

* Weekly horseback riding and/or vaulting instruction
* Safe horse handling, care, and groundwork skills
* Horse behavior, herd dynamics, and communication
* Social-emotional skill-building through equine assisted learning
* Experiential horse-themed academic enrichment
* An exhibition of skills on the final week

We welcome children of all abilities and experience levels, and aim to provide a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages confidence, creativity, and fun!

🌟About Your Instructors:

•Erica Irigoyen holds a degree in Equine Business Management from St. Andrews University (SAU). During her time at SAU, Erica competed in the Intercollegiate Dressage Association and interned with Olympic bronze eventer, Julie Richards. Erica has a certification in Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) through Greg Kernsten’s O.K Corral Series. Erica is also a member of Equestrian Vaulting USA (EVUSA). Erica enjoys bringing the joys of horses to her students through a safe and structured environment, while fostering the horse-human relationship.
