Lessons are generally one hour long; the first half being dedicated to grooming and the second half to riding. Through grooming, tacking and riding their horse, participants develop skills that produce wide-reaching improvements in areas such as; fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, sequencing, memory, attention span, balance, hand/eye coordination, right/left handedness, communication, body awareness, flexibility, teamwork, socialization, coordination and improved self-esteem. The recreational aspect of STAR's program proves invaluable for these special persons who often cannot participate in conventional sports.

Did you pour your cup of ambition, yet?! ✨ It's Dolly Day! Of the many treasures she shared with the world, her giving spirit and servant heart stand tallest among them. Here at STAR, our crew is working 9 to 5 (and then some!) 🐴🚛 hauling hay, hitching trailers, and caring for our herd and riders. Thank you to the many donors who make our work possible.

We hope today inspires you to give a little where you can. We're working to secure a new 4x4 truck that can work as hard as our staff to safely haul our horses and serve our programs the best we can! If you'd like to support our Hitch & Haul for Healing campaign, we'd be so grateful. 💛

Happy Retirement, Snip! 🎉 You have earned it!

Snip has been a part of the STAR Herd since August 2020 and has been an amazing partner in all of our programs over the years.

Snip has a special way of knowing exactly what her riders need. She can be gentle and sweet for those who need a little extra support, but she also isn't afraid to add just enough of a challenge when a rider is ready for it! Her smooth walking horse gait has also made her a wonderful partner for riders who enjoy moving at a faster pace without a lot of movement in the saddle.

At 26 years old, Snip has more than earned a well-deserved retirement. She will now get to spend her days relaxing, grazing in the pasture, and enjoying the company of her horse friends.

Thank you, Snip, for all the riders you've carried, lessons you've taught, and lives you've touched during your time at STAR.

Welcome to STAR, Brooklyn! 🎉🐎

Brooklyn is a 20-year-old bay Quarter Horse mare who has spent much of her life enjoying the trails and has even participated in a few parades!

Brooklyn’s owner is getting ready to start an exciting new chapter — heading off to college as she begins her journey toward becoming a veterinarian.

Knowing she won’t have as much time to spend with Brooklyn, she thought Brooklyn might enjoy having a new job and that STAR could be a great fit!

We are so excited to welcome Brooklyn to the barn, get to know her sweet personality, and see how she likes life at STAR. Please help us give Brooklyn a warm STAR welcome!

We’re so thankful for Dr. Jack Haney, DDS and his support!

Earlier this year, he chose STAR as the nonprofit to benefit from his summer teeth whitening special. It was a unique opportunity for individuals to get a teeth whitening while also supporting STAR’s mission!

On Friday, Dr. Haney stopped by the barn to present us a $4,000 check from the summer special!

Thank you Dr. Haney and all those that took advantage of the special! These funds will go directly toward changing lives in our programs!
