Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on a day that forever changed our nation.
Twenty-five years have passed, but the memories of that morning remain vivid. Families lost loved ones, first responders made extraordinary sacrifices, and Americans awoke to the realization that our country—and our way of life—had changed forever.
Personally, I woke up that morning to my radio alarm clock and heard reports of a fire at the World Trade Center. I turned on the TV and watched the coverage of one of the towers burning. At that point, news anchors were still trying to make sense of what had happened. Was it an accident? Had a small or commuter plane somehow crashed into the tower?
Then, in an instant, everything changed.
As millions of us watched live on television, a second plane flew into the other tower. Right before our eyes.
At that moment, most everyone realized the same thing: This was no accident. America was under attack.
What followed was a day none of us who lived through it will ever forget.
For those of you who remember that morning: Where were you when you first heard what was happening? What do you remember most about September 11, 2001?
May we always remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call, and never forget September 11, 2001.
May God continue to bless, protect, and guide our nation. God bless America. 🇺🇸
