I was then a full time youth pastor for 25 years. I then received a certification of Pastoral Sexual Addiction Professional from the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. I was then trained in the Genesis Process (used in Union Gospel Mission across the country for all addictions.) I was then trained in Brainspotting for men with more trauma.

If isolation is the result of po*******hy addiction, by definition, you can't take care of it by yourself. And if isolation is the result, maybe God doesn't want you to take care of it by yourself. God wants us in intimate relationship with Him and with safe people.

Shame: "Evils most fundamental mode of operation."-Dr. Curt Thompson
Genesis 2:25 "Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame." Why mention shame? "It draws our attention to the fulcrum around which sin rotates." -Dr. Curt Thompson
When we feel shame, we hide, we blame, we cover up, just like Adam and Eve. That's all isolation.
What is the answer to shame?
Ch.3:9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked?
Connection and vulnerability are the antidote to shame.

The stuff you say to yourself creates structural changes in your brain that begins to automate thoughts and feelings that feed back and make you believe those things you say are actually true. Addictive behavior is a stronghold of lies. We cover up what we believe with what we know and the two are not the same. We cover up the lies of the enemy that we believe with knowledge we learn in church. Behavior is based on what we believe, not what we know. Healing is an exploratory process of finding out what we truly believe. Dr. James Reeves

Without connection to people, it's almost impossible to step away from any form of unhealthy reward/regulation. Connectedness counters the pull of addictive behaviors. It turns out that the most powerful form of reward is relationships. -Dr. Bruce Perry in "What Happened to You?"

The answer to shame is relationship. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, they hid, they blamed, they covered up. AKA Isolation, Isolation, Isolation.
What did God do? He asked, "Where are you?" "What have you done?" "Have you eaten?" "Who told you?"
God pursued them even when they felt shame and were trying to isolate. He wanted to connect with them.
The same is true for us today. We are wired to be in relationship with God and safe people.

Fantasy (it doesn't matter what kind) is very often used to make someone feel significant for a time in their life when they felt insignificant. And when they are there (consumed by fantasy), they are not here.
