First and foremost, we are so appreciative of the outpouring of support, money, and donations we received to take to WNC and assist in whatever small way we could. I will list everyone in the comments below I have names for who donated, we cannot thank them enough for their kindness and generosity. Special thanks to @theinfinitloop @daytonchildrens and @reserbicycle for helping pull this together.
We arrived Saturday evening in Black Mountain, NC with a @joe_carver12 Subaru Wagon with a donated roof box from @rrtrails, a van, and a pickup truck very generously loaned to us for the trip by @polygonguru. All 3 vehicles were full to the brim with donations and tools! Without power, water, or cell service, @austin__winfield and @jenna_winfield we so kind to host us in there home and help us with our work!
On Sunday we connected with @belovedasheville to deliver donations and coordinate with them to do relief work in whatever way was needed. @austin__winfield and @joe_carver12 went with a group and hiked supplies in to people who had limited access to get out and also did chainsaw and wood splitting work for the community. @seven53racing and @bluelogan along with their farm dog Hazel, traveled to Big Ivy and assisted in coordination and organization of donated supplies being delivered to the bottom of a U.S. Forest Service road. We set up our tent, loaned by @reserbicycle and table with a cooler of Go Far donated by @theinfinitloop to help keep the workers, volunteers, and federal workers fueled and hydrated.
After the setup and organizing was under control, Erin, Brent, and Hazel hike up to the @mountainlightsanctuary because there were conflicting reports of people being there or they had left. The hike was up what used to be a road with bridges, but was then just a washed out river with bridges washed away. Fortunately, after clearing all the buildings, they confirmed that all people and animals had hiked out.
Sunday, Brent, Erin, and Austin spent the day working in Old Fort, NC helping individuals clean out, repair what could be fixed, and helping in any way they could.

On Friday, 10/4 at 5:30 PM, our Licking Valley Velo - Nexigen Racing Team along with members of the NKY/Cincinnati Community are loading up some tools, food, water, supplies, and hiking gear and heading to the Ashville/Swannanoa area (where some members of our Cincinnati cycling group now live). We are leaving Friday evening from Reser Bicycle Outfitters. We are going to help with clearing roads, getting supplies to folks, helping get folks in contact with their families, and anything else we can do to help with our equipment and resources. We are asking for your help in our community to help theirs! We would like people in our group to first and foremost, come and help us with the work that needs done!

I am posting this here because a lot of us on this team have skills, knowledge, equipment, and resources that can help AND we are a physically active community that can help with our hands AND our hearts!

If you can't go to Asheville this weekend to help, here are other ways you can help:

1) You can bring non-perishable food, water, animal food, diapers, baby formula, and first aid supplies to Reser on Friday evening between 3pm and 5pm.

2) You can provide or loan tools and equipment for the folks that are going to help equip them for the jobs that they will be doing. Items such as chainsaws, hiking and camping gear, headlamps, food and water, and gas cards to help fund the trip down.

3) You can donate money that we will be used for supplies and equipment needed most for the communities in WNC. If you want to donate you can send money through Venmo to www.venmo.com/u/LVVNexigen (See Profile pic in comments)

4) Go donate blood! In talking with some friends down there who are from our cycling community here in Cinci, one who works as an OBGYN in Morganton, NC, I was informed that they are very short on blood at the local hospitals. Shawn Cox is an amazing resource for blood donation in the area, if you have questions please DM him!

5) Share this post and get it out to your other friends and family to encourage more help.

Together we can definitely make a difference for people in real need. Now is the time when those affected are most vulnerable and we can make the most difference with hands on help and supplies!

Please let me know via DM if you are willing or wanting to take time from work or help in another way so we can do more than send thoughts and prayers.

In a time of division, sometimes an opportunity presents itself to come together as humans and show our love for one another.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

A 1st, a 3rd and a 4th this weekend at Lionheart CX . Just imagine what we could do if we formed an actual racing team out of our club 🤔... 2024?

Big shout-out to our partners Reser Bicycle Outfitters Kentucky Bike Lawyer - Chris Carville Ohio Bike Lawyer - Steve Magas North South Baking Co Wooden Cask Brewing Company . None of this would happen without your support!
