Kearney Invite—Meadowlark Golf Course

Coming off a short turnaround of racing three days prior, the Minutemaids and Minutemen took on the challenge of Class A runners at the Kearney Cross Country Invitational on Friday, September 11. Warmer weather greeted the runners but a slight breeze kept the temperatures manageable.

Senior Natalie Ramirez, once again, led the Minutemaids with a. solid performance of 20:16 to place third. She is becoming comfortable running by herself and recognizing how to adjust her pace be it faster or slower. Her time was the second fastest in school history on that course. The consistency is nice to see. Sophomore Bristol McConville had a break out race and set a new season best time of 20:59.8 (sixth fastest in school history.) as she ran aggressively the entire way. Her work ethic has kept her continually improving. Despite not feeling the best physically, Kaylee Converse improved her course best time to 26:31 and placed 71st. The Minutemaids continue to make steady progress and dropping their season best times. The Minutemaids finished sixth in a field of nine.

The dynamic duo of seniors Isac Portillo and Erick Grijalva continued to impress as they helped each other in the race to finish 3-4. They were not intimidated by the Class A runners but inspired to show their talents as they ran their season best times of 16:31 and 16:33respectively. Grijalva’s efforts earned him the fifth fastest in school history on that course.
Freshman Adan Rivas, showed his strength, and ran a solid race breaking 18 minutes for the first time (17:58.9—20th fastest in school history on that course). It is impressive to see the freshman reaching that level early in the season as he offers promise to the team. Teammate Miles Oestreich did his best to stay in range of Rivas and was about 30 seconds back at 18:26. As both boys progress it will help the team score improve. Most the Minutemen boys were able to set a season best time to show their dedication to the training is paying off and are excited to prove their abilities.

The Minutemen finished fifth in the field of nine teams, despite not having their third runner available. Both squads will be running at the Central City Invite, next Thursday, September 17.
