Over 40 years in business, Lam Tang has seen so many people whose health benefited by Tai Chi practice. These days, it seems that medicine has discovered and admits that stress contributes to a broad spectrum of illnesses. The name means Supreme Ultimate Fist, implying with emphasis that there is no higher form of movement for developing strength through awareness, calming, healing, and building power in the body.

Tai Chi Chuan is well known for the therapeutic benefits for the body. The gentle movements relax and releases tensions throughout the body. In Qi Gong, we often refer to this as dissolving the knots. Qi/Chi, our bio-electric energy can then flow smoothly. Continuing practice strengthens the body and healing progresses.

Over these 40 years, so many amazing things have happened. One of our most successful achievements was publishing Sifu Saleeem's first book, Musings of a Water Dragon. It was an easy compilation of random memories and thoughts on various aspects of Kung Fu. It was fun to write, and read apparently, as students who purchased it have enjoyed it, shared it with friends and family, and read it over several times. Its wisdom can be easily applied to life for everyone. We are thinking of another printing, so if anyone is interested, please let us know.

40 YEARS!!!! Happy Anniversary Lam Tang!

October 29th is Lam Tang's 40th anniversary of teaching in the Columbia SC area! When the military sent Sifu Saleem here in 1985, he opened his first Kung Fu school in Columbia which was close to Fort Jackson. It was the first Kung Fu school in South Carolina. Since that time the school has had a number of locations locally, as well as names a few times. Our current and well-established name honors two famous masters who founded the two major branches of Hung Gar Kung Fu… Grandmasters Lam Sai Wing and Tang Fong.

Internal art.... when and how does tai chi become internal? Focus on the correct movement and you will find the development is found along the way and comes through intent. The unification of body, mind, spirit, breath grows the chi.

Kung-fu is an assembly of concepts and theories, that are structured and tested for acquiring a particular purpose. Kung-fu exists in a continously expanding and contracting universe of entanglements and interchanging possibilities of thought. The dynamic essence of Kung-fu permeates and stimulates the synergy of body-mind, body-breath and body-spirit. In Kung-fu, these are indispensable qualities. These psychological and physiological phenomenon stimulate a rise in intuition and oneness of body, mind, and spirit. Consequently, Kung-fu is a process of thought elements in search of a logical sequence of expression.
