What is the most important type of training if you are registered for the Lexington Health Half Marathon?

Easy, aerobic runs.

There are many different and great ways to train, but the most important part is increasing your aerobic engine. This means running at a pace that allows you to have a conversation, and sometimes doing that for a long time! Long runs on the weekend and easy, shorter runs during the week are the bread and butter of half marathon training. Make sure those training sessions are consistent and you have plenty of experience before introducing more rigorous training.

They're here! The big reveal!

What do you think of the medals this year?

08/05/2026

You get home from work, it's late, and you're wondering why your dinner won't just magically appear because you and your family are hungry.

Here are a few tips:

1. Plan ahead. I know, I know. This takes time. Spending a few minutes doing this on a Sunday will make your week so much better.

2. Stick with three simple components: protein, carb, color (fruit or vegetable).

3. Keep it simple. At least two, if not three, of the components above should be little-to-no effort on your part if you are pushed for time.

Examples:
Marinated, grilled chicken, store-bought bread, salad.
Store bought rotisserie chicken, baked sweet potatoes, and sautéed green beans.

You're probably not getting enough calories if this describes you! Try adding snacks!

Think: Protein + Carb

Here are some examples:

Trail mix (contains nuts, pretzels, dried fruit)
Apple + cheese stick
Banana + packet of nut butter
Yogurt with fav toppings (granola, berries, etc)

What is a cutback week and why do you need it?

Increasing mileage and intensity is part of improving as a runner, but so is recovery. A cutback week means decreasing mileage and often doing less intensity to give your body a chance to rest, reset, and recover from the hard training. Not only does this give your body a chance to recuperate and lower the risk of injury, but it also gives you a mental break from the hard work. Cutback weeks should be worked into the schedule approximately every three to four weeks, but it depends on the runner.
