The Susan Bradley-Cox "Tri for Sight" is a USAT-sanctioned event in Central Kentucky The Tri and Du events both finish with a 3 mile run.
This USAT-sanctioned event features a 400-meter swim in a heated, outdoor pool with a time trial start on 15-second intervals. The duathletes will instead be treated to a relatively flat, fast and scenic 2-mile run behind and beside Spindletop. Both Tri and Du events will then transition to a 12.6-mile bike course on low-traffic roads in the beautiful horse country located just east of the Kentucky Horse Park.

TRI FOR SIGHT 2025 UPDATE - it is with much sadness to announce that there will not be a Tri for Sight this year. Due to logistical and administrative challenges, it only makes sense to take a hiatus for 2025 then regroup in 2026. With that said, save the date for a bigger and better Tri for Sight, September 13, 2026. Here are some local events you can look into:
Tri Louisville - July 13
Riverbluff Triathlon - August 10
Oldham County Triathlon - August 23
Bowling Green Triathlon - August 24
MOJO Triathlon - August 24
Tri Pike - August 30
Wildman Triathlon - September 20

TFS WEATHER FORECAST
Although athletes can expect a dry race morning with very little wind, Sunday's temperatures will be a little cooler than normal. Here are a few cold weather racing tips:
+ Bring more than you think you'll need. It's better to be safe than sorry.
+ Wear old socks, gloves, and/or a long sleeve shirt while waiting for the swim
+ Choose layers that are easily removable
+ Continue to hydrate
+ Have dry/warm clothes to change into after the race
The swim will take place in the competition pool at the Club at Spindletop Hall and will be 400 meters (8 laps or 16 lengths). Athletes will be required to use the step ladder into the pool and will be instructed to “go” when it is time for them to start. THERE WILL BE NO DIVING OR JUMPING allowed for the start of the swim. The swim will be “snake style” so swimmers will swim down and back in each lane, always staying to the left in the direction they are swimming. Upon returning to the start end of the pool, swim under the lane line to enter the next lane until you’ve completed all eight. Flip turns are optional. There will be 20 seconds of spacing between athletes. Any athlete that jumps or dives to start the race will be disqualified, no exceptions!
Once the last swimmer has entered the pool, all swimmers in the pool will have 20 minutes from that point to complete the swim. If you have not completed the swim by then, you will be asked to forfeit your timing chip. We do this because we have a limited time window for use of the bike course, so significantly delaying entry onto the bike course could jeopardize our ability to meet the deadlines required by the police and Spindletop.

Please become familiar with the following most frequent rule violations. There will be NO WARNINGS if you commit a foul during competition. Triathlon is an individual event and you must take personal responsibility to understand the rules and avoid penalties.
HELMETS - Helmets must be worn securely fastened at all times while in possession of your bike. This means before, during, and after the event. Chin straps must be fastened at all times while in possession of your bike. This means from the time you remove your bike from the rack at the start of the bike leg, until after you have placed your bike on the rack at the finish of the bike leg.
HEADPHONES - Headphones, headset, radio, or a personal audio device may not be carried or worn during competition.
OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE – No assistance other than that offered by race staff (including volunteers), medical officials and active participants may be used. Participants competing in the same event may assist each other with incidental items such as, but not restricted to, food and drinks after an aid station, pumps, tubular tires, inner tubes and puncture repair kits. A participant shall not physically assist the forward progress of another participant on any part of the course
TRANSITION AREA - All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. All bar ends must be solidly plugged.
BIKE POSITION - Ride on the right side of the lane. Keep three bike lengths between yourself and the cyclist in front of you. Pass on the left of the cyclist in front, never on the right. Marshals commonly cite the following violations:
+ Drafting - keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must complete your pass within 15 seconds
+ Illegal Pass - cyclists must pass on the left, not on the right
+ Blocking - riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and impeding other cyclists attempting to pass
+ Overtaken - once passed, you must immediately make rearward progress out of the draft zone of the passing cyclist and move completely out of the draft zone within 15 seconds.
Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers, and officials with courtesy and consideration. Failure to do so is called Unsportsmanlike Conduct and you will be disqualified.
Rules Download and learn the competition rules for both traditional and draft-legal racing.
