What a day!
I was incredibly honored to be inducted into the Legends of Carolina Martial Arts. It was a privilege to share the experience with so many remarkable people.
I had the opportunity to meet Bill “Superfoot” Wallace, commentator for UFC 1, spend time with Ray Thompson, father and trainer of UFC standout Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, reconnect with my former college professor and Police Chief Charles Austin, and, of course, be with one of my teachers, mentors, and friend, Gary Shull.
It was also great working with my longtime friend and training partner, Paul Willis, from the Monroe, North Carolina CTC, as we continued his progression in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The academy was run smoothly by Adam, and I was honored to conduct a couple of promotions this afternoon.
The highlight of the day, though, was conducting a live verification test for Nathan from Knoxville, Tennessee. Congratulations on earning your Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt! Your dedication, perseverance, and hard work have paid off. I couldn’t be more proud of you.
Days like this remind me how lucky I am for the friendships, students, and opportunities that martial arts has brought into my life.

It’s been a great week! Kimura class and lots of promotions. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication!

One of the best parts of attending instructor training at Headquarters is seeing how our Jiu-Jitsu reaches people from all over the world. We are truly one family regardless of where we train. Our learning environment, attention to safety, professionalism and solid self-defense technique makes our academies a special place to be. Thank you to all my Gracie friends, family, students and teachers. Let’s get after it!!
